P!ssed off the neighbour a bit, but totally worth it. To get the full effect, you need to turn your bass up pretty much to the max, and crank your sound system way up. When it's uncomfortably loud, you're maybe 10% of the real volume.

Enjoy: pulsejet

When are you going to hook it up to your bike and take it for a spin?

building a buggy to try it out. Hoping to use the local airstrip when it's closed, complete witha gps system to get a rough idea of speed.

Okay, I'm seeing a propane line feeding into a mixing chamber with a spark ignition attached to a venturi tube. Is the placement of the propane line intended to preheat the gas coming in?

I think he's forcing more air in to the intake.
yeah, it's the way a pulsejet works. Imagine the gas pops, shoots out the exhaust and intake, then carries on through momentum, leaving a low pressure area. It then sucks back some air+ gas, which re-ignights itself, in pulses, hence pulsejet.

The leaf blower kicks it off, like the starter motor of an engine, otherwise you just get big yellow flames billowing out the intake. Once it started, you don't need to blow air in, nor do you need a spark plug to keep it running. It'll run so long as you pump gas into it.

I'll keep an eye on the Darwin awards for an update.

bwahahahahaha... Yeah. I was going to comment on how he should take everything out of the video before the engine runs, or do some serious editing.. but that made it all worth it.

The engine is awesome too, though. I wanted to hear you rev it up a bit.

Bah it's not running until it's glowing bright orange-yellow.

<--- Built a hovercraft with two of these a while back.

Yeah they are pretty loud. It's quite the growl.

He was adjusting the position of the fuel nozzle.... You gotta find the right position for the system to work with your specific engine.

It's funny that you mention two strokes, because it does use principles that two strokes also employ, namely the expansion chamber.

However, comparing a pulsejet engine to a two-stroke due to reliability concerns is erroneous.. A pulsejet engine has the potential to last a very... very long time.....

One would be a damn fool not to wear plugs AND muffs around this thing. Our dually was clocked at over 130 dB more than 200 feet away. We got fined over $20k total for running it in public but it was fun. Still cheaper than a year's worth of women. :Q
