Our son got the xBox One, and gave me his 360 to keep here. I'm an old-school PC gamer, and have never used these console gaming systems.

I have an Onkyo 606 A/V receiver, a Pioneer 5010 plasma 50" TV, a Panasonic Blu-ray player, and JBL and Polk speakers.

When we tried to make all the connections today we could not get the video. All hook-ups going thru the A/V receiver, and with a Harmony remote. We used the xbox component cable for the audio/video. The audio came through fine, but no video.

Anyone?

Check the Onkyo manual to make sure it "up converts" component to HDMI if that is your main cable to the TV.

Check that the component input is assigned to the button that you think it is (for example video-1). Also check that you don't have an HDMI input mapped to that same button.

You can also try connecting the component cables to the TV and the audio to the receiver.

. . . . or just use HDMI if the 360 has that port (older models did not).

IIRC there's a setting on the 360 where you pick which video out to use. If it was previously set up for HDMI only, then you'll at least need to use HDMI again to see the screen to change the setting to component.

However, you really shouldn't be using any connection other than HDMI on these consoles. It just won't look right and you have the receiver to support it. Component/composite were pretty necessary early on when HDMI wasn't available to most, but if you should be using HDMI if you can.

Remember, not all 360s have an HDMI out. If the version his son had was older, there's no hdmi available, just component or vga, depending on the adapter cable being used.

His 360 did have an HDMI port that he never used because his current TV set doesn't have an HDMI port (OMG...)... We're helping him ( ) get new TV this week... (OMG...) for his new xbox One.... ( maybe the 32" Samsung UN32EH5300, $330. at Amazon... 1080P, 3 HDMI, 2 USB).

I had an extra HDMI cable laying around, connected it from the 360 to the 'game' HDMI on the Onkyo receiver, and I'm now attempting to get this set up correctly with the Harmony remote. Right now (no changes made yet), on the Harmony One remote, the way it's assigned is this:
DVD > HDMI 1
VCR/DVR> HDMI 2
CBL/SAT> HDMI 3
Game/TV> blank
AUX> blank
Tape> "
CD> "

So, what do I want to switch to what.........as I stated above, I have the...
Onkyo 606 A/V receiver
A Cox Cable box
Panasonic Blu_ray
XboX 360 with HDMI
JBL/Polk speakers
All running thru Onkyo

Appreciate the help, as I'm pretty good w/ PC's, but not so much with TV's and A/V equipment....

I don't know how many hdmi ports your receiver has. I would set things up without the harmony remote first, making sure things work right. Receivers usually come with their own remotes or you should be able to switch the hdmi input manually using controls on the front panel of the receiver.

Once it's set up, then you can by process of elimination figure out which HDMI # each input is plugged into and set it up on the remote. It's possible your receiver has more than 3 HDMI ports (for example, mine has 7).

Also make sure your receiver isn't doing any extra video processing on the xbox signal as it goes through the receiver (upconverting, etc), or you'll probably get lag in the game.

You have 4 HDMI ports on your reciever, which are all assignable. It looks like you have them in the default mode, with HDMI 1 assigned to DVD, etc.

I would connect HDMI inputs as follows:

HDMI 1 Blu-ray player
HDMI 2 unconnected
HDMI 3 Cable Box
HDMI 4 Xbox

Go to page 43 of your TX-SR606 manual for setup of the HDMI inputs.

In the HDMI setup section, assign as follows.

With your Onkyo remote, press the following:

1) Press the [RECEIVER] button, followed by the [SETUP] button.

2) Use the Up and Down [^]/[v] buttons to select “1. Input Assign,” and then press [ENTER].

3) Use the Up and Down [^]/[v] buttons to select “1. HDMI Input,” and then press [ENTER].

4) Use the Up and Down [^]/[v] buttons to select an input selector, and use the left and right buttons to select.

HDMI 1 > DVD
HDMI 2 > - - - - -
HDMI 3 > CBL/SAT
HDMI 4 > Game/TV

5) Press the [SETUP] button.

After you have gotten these setup and working, you can program your Harmony remote accordingly.

Guys...

Very helpful. I thought I only had 3 HDMI ports on the Onkyo 606... DOH...

And once I put down that dang Harmony One remote, and changed settings thru the Onkyo remote, the sun began to shine. Got the 360 video and audio set up thru the Onkyo remote.

Now, I have to change the settings of the Harmony remote, which I have to do online with it connected to my computer with a cable which I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE IT IS, dang it and DOH, again........ looking around now....

The Harmony One uses a standard "USB Type A to Mini B" cable. If you have a cell phone that cable will probably work

Good luck.

Most newer phones use the micro USB style cable, not the Mini USB.

Mini USB is on the left and Micro USB is on the right. My Harmony One remotes require the one on the left. It is the same cable used to charge PS3 controllers.

That's why i specified "mini" and not "micro", and also specified "cell phone" and not "smart phone"

Just clarifying, almost nobody I know has a phone that isn't a smart phone. In fact my father still has a flip phone and it uses the micro USB cable.

Well, I only have a very old Motorola flip phone that I buy Trac phone minutes for (Like the 'old' people...). I just retired and have no need for a smart phone, as I sit in front of my computer reading and playing computer games. I love the technology of the new phones and their capabilities, but refuse to spend $40/50/60/$70 a month to do it, as I web surf/email from my desktop. If I was still a sales rep 'on the road', then I would have one.

Everything working now w/ the A/V system and the xBox360. Amazing, I actually found the Harmony cable. I had to add the xbox360 as a device. Weird, as my Cox Cable box is labeled as a 'PVR/DVR' on the list of icons that are on the Harmony screen.

Being an 'old school' PC gamer from back in '92/'93 when I bought my first PC games (Links 386, Doom, and Aces Over Europe), the console game controller is an alien device as far as I'm concerned. But, I'll fool around once in a while with Madden, one of the tennis simulations, and FIFA I'm sure. In the PC world, one of the games I play is Battlefield 4, typically on East coast servers, and if you guys play this game, my user names are 'Wall_St_Thief', 'DFWallace', or 'Popcorn Heaven'... I keep changing it, as I get bored...

The new TV set for son's BR xBox One playing will probably be the 32" Samsung #UN32EH5000FXZA, @ $350 online and at BBuy.

Thanks for your help.

My parents use old flip phones and they're all on micro USB, so what you said still doesn't make sense

You should attempt to use an hdmi it's one cable and fairly cheap. It should set you back 30$ but it's high definition and easy to setup with your kind of tv.
