There's no such thing as a three second rule in California. A rookie cop ticketed me for failing to stop completely for three seconds in San Diego. I took the morning off work to contested that in court. The judge said "this is only a preliminary hearing, there's no three second rule, how do you plea?" I thought, fuck...I have to come back to court a second time for a trial, so I pleaded no contest, paid $120, and paid another $50 to take driver's ed online.

You people who think traffic laws are unjust... How many of you get irritated by other drivers.. and feel that other drivers are crazy etc.

Try living in MD and driving to DC, it is getting absolutely rediculous. They're in the process of passing a bill that would allow for more speed cameras state wide, mobile cameras that can be set up anywhere, and cameras that can run 24-7 in "work zones" even if there are no workers present :disgust: I think they should just tax drivers straight up instead of trying to make it look like a safety program. No matter how good a driver you are eventually they'll get you because they are shifty as hell in the way they set some of the traps up.

In my city there are three streets which abruptly drop from 35 to 25 for absolutely no reason. It's not at an intersection, near anything important, nothing, they just drop.

And the dick cops LOVE to sit on the 25MPH side of the signs behind a building to catch people. It's quite possibly the thing that drives me most nuts about my city. I learned at first, those cops are there 50% of the time I go by. It's ridiculous.

I can drive around my city right now and pick out 5 speed traps in five minutes. That's not for safety. That's greed.

How about not rolling through a stop/red light. You know you're not supposed to do that and you did it. Own up.

I love those traffic cameras...especially in El Cajon, Mira Mesa and Mission Valley. Before they were installed, it was like driving in tijuana.

Really surprising they haven't placed cameras at stop signs yet. IMHO, they'd get a lot more income from those, than from traffic signals, though I'm not sure how they'd program a camera to catch a "california stop"?? Guess it works on red lights, though, so would be the same for stop signs, right?

Like I used to tell a guy that worked with me, "The sign says S-T-O-P, not P-A-U-S-E!!" He was famous for rolling through stop signs.

Well you were right, Lidar cannot disobey physics, so what you did what prove the officer right.

or in La Jolla when Miramar turns into La Jolla Village Drive. People going 50-70mph into the intersection, and exiting at 35mph. A great light to get people who can stop in time for the light. Seen it go off plenty of times.

Its a conspiracy involving the police department, the auto industry, and the oil industry. I'll be glad to see the day public transportation works as well as the West European and Southeast Asian nations.

it never will. to warrant building public transportation on that order, you need population densities that are unheard of throughout most of the US.

I go to the gym on Jamacha and Washingotn in El Cajon and on the way back I always take Washington or Main and LOVE watching people get nailed by the camaras running red lights, some people never learn. I see people get nailed at least 2-3 times a week there.

Oh and my father works for a signal company hooking up those camaras, he's an electrician. FTW

Right here in El Cajon the cops favorite hang out spot is on El Cajon Blvd as it exits into El Cajon El Cajon Blvd (which turns into Main streeet a few blocks down) This exit is right next to the BMW dealer and people are always going 55+ mph down it and down the street. I see cops everyday in traffic hrs hanging out by the dealer or in the entrances to shops along the street.

I think you screwed up with your plea, actually. The judge essentially gave you the "out" as he stated there was no three second rule.....and there's not anywhere---a stop is defined as the wheels stopping turning----and since it was a preliminary hearing, if you'd pled not guilty, the judge could have thrown out the case at that moment, since, as he said, you were essentially ticketed for a law that doesn't exist. Probably would have had no further interaction with the traffic court.

Yeah, sounds like a fail on your part. Should've at least asked him about the possibility of a second hearing (or whatever) if you had chosen to plead innocent.

wow you're dumb. prelim hearings are there to see which cases the judge will throw out. had you pled not guilty, he would have thrown it out.

talk about retarded.

btw, redlight cameras around here have a $351+ ticket.

how the fuck is that fair?

The cams hurt sometimes. There's an intersection with a huge box that's obviously a camera... long straightaway leading up to it - people are playing it safe than sorry and brake/slow even before the yellow comes (they see the flashing don't walk)... better to be safe and delay traffic as opposed to wind up with a $75 ticket. True, but it's fux0ring traffic to the point that it's hurting more than helping with red-light runners.

fixed.

For DUI and speed traps yes...for red light / stop enforcement no.

I don't know about your areas but we have daily intersection accidents due to people blowing lights. At our worst it's not unusual to see the front car stop for the red, yet the cars 2 and 3 back just go around them through the red.

At another cops finally staked it out as the people turning left would never stop through several light changes...they finally put in a much needed overpass at that intersection.

I try to follow all the rules but if there's people behind they get pissed off. It's sad really. Technically, at a 4 way stop you actually have to wait like 3 seconds before you move, same for when a light goes green. Those are all little rules that people break all the time, so they basically pick and choose who to catch.

WTH? that may be someones rule of thumb, but here in az there is no timer set for how long you sit there. the tires need to come to a full stop is all. if your town has a 3 second rule, thats the first time ive ever heard of something that stupid.

I can't imagine that it'd be too tough. A $5 optical mouse can measure its position relative to a surface with excellent accuracy, including when the mouse is not moving. With a government contract pissing away loads of money on a project, some kind of motion sensing system could most likely register whether or not a car did in fact stop completely.

For that cost though, they might as well just install a simple, tried-and-true traffic light.
