There's no such thing as a three second rule in California. A rookie cop ticketed me for failing to stop completely for three seconds in San Diego. I took the morning off work to contested that in court. The judge said "this is only a preliminary hearing, there's no three second rule, how do you plea?" I thought, fuck...I have to come back to court a second time for a trial, so I pleaded no contest, paid $120, and paid another $50 to take driver's ed online.
wow you're dumb. prelim hearings are there to see which cases the judge will throw out. had you pled not guilty, he would have thrown it out.
talk about retarded.
btw, redlight cameras around here have a $351+ ticket.
how the fuck is that fair?
Nope...you're wrong. "Preliminary hearing" for traffic court per the Judge was "go to trail" or "not go to trail." Traffic court is not the same as criminal court. There were a hundred of us packed into a small court room. Most pleaded guilty. The only dismissal was due to a clerical error. Imagine if I really did a rolling stop, went to the preliminary hearing, and said "hey the officer said I didn't stop for three seconds." How's the judge going to know I'm telling the truth. Please watch less TV and live more real life. If I had to do it again, I would have done it through trial by declaration.
Redlight cameras are 100% fair...especially when there are signs warning you ahead of them, and some places even warn you of the $341+ fines. Dunno know about it saving lives, but it sure does prevent people from driving like jackasses.

How do you plead no contest to a traffic ticket??
I kept asking the judge questions, then he interrupted "how do you plead...guilty, not guilty, no contest?" I said "no contest." Before the preliminary hearings started, the judge even explained you can plead three of the above ways.
