If this is in California, I believe pacing is not a legal means to determine rate of speed. However, OP clearly states he was going almost twice the speed limit, so he should still pay up.
Please quit pulling made-up regulations out of your ass.
Provide a link to substantiate your claim.
This is the second most stupid claim in this thread.
sheesh!

No.
And YOU can Fuck Off too if you think tailgating in a 25 zone is Good Driving Behavior.
Please provide substantiating evidence to support your position.

lol

If its a residential area (those are the only 25 zones around here) I will slow down to well below 25. I don't want to take out a kid to save a couple seconds off my trip.

If its a main road, then 10 over is not only acceptable but expected around here. If you go 40 in a 45 around here, a cop will PIT you because you are going too damn slow.

While that's good for party chuckles, that is simply an exaggeration and untrue.
I'll grant you that an excessivly slow driver willl be ticketed on a Freeway type road for underperformance, but on a surface street posted @ 45, no way will a 40 mph driver be cited, all other circumstances notwithstanding. If you want to make up circumstances then fine, I'll go you one better and turn the 40 mph driver into a car bomber, and we'll fly that into the ground right now.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'm Pure and I've NEVER done that....Just saying Now that I'm older, I see where it happens in inappropriate places.
And how much tragedy a car accident can bring.
I get passed by people all the time, and then I pull up to them a few minutes later, and they're still trying to play Rally-Cross-Need-For Speed in real time, coffee in one hand, BlueTooth blinking, Car woofer bumping....yeah, they're paying attention to the road..sure they are.

To everyone I just told to Fuck off...sorry....just rubs me the wrong way.

in a 25 zone i do around 20. why? same reason i know kids are stupid and will run out between cars for dumb shit. i don't want to take a kid out. not to mention the extra 10 seconds it adds to my driving time is nothing.

the main road i drive on is 55 mph. but flow of traffic is 60. hell a cop won't pull you over unless you are doing 65+

You won't win, just pay the ticket.

A few years ago, my wife (my girlfriend at the time) got a ticket and decided to fight it. I don't remember the exact amount of the ticket, so let's just say it was $100. She went to court and the officer showed up. The judge asked the officer about the incident and the officer said he clocked her in a BMW doing 60 in a 45 (speeds are an example). The problem was, she has no BMW and drives a blue Honda Civic. Want to guess what happened? The judge ignored that and made her pay the ticket AND court costs, so she ended up paying $50 or $60 more.

Sure, maybe a lawyer would've got her out of the ticket, but not for less than the ticket was in the first place. The moral of the story here -- if you want to contest a ticket, fine. When you show up at court, if the officer is there, just pay the ticket to the clerk and leave or else, you might end up paying more if the case goes before the judge. If the officer does NOT show up, go ahead and you'll get it dismissed.

A lawyer probably wouldn't have gotten her out, stuff that can be amended on a ticket usually won't get a ticket thrown out. i.e. car, color, height, eye color, etc...

most people in marin are tree-hugging types...I think most would have a huge problem with someone doing double a 15mph limit. I like to speed, but I do so on the highway and will take it nice and easy in any 30mph or less zone.

This guy is probably a gardener or something staying in a spare room there.

Yeah, we are all tree huggers here. Maybe you have heard of the Sunday morning ride?
It's one of the best groups of civil disobedience in existence, look it up.
And don't forget, all executions in California take place in Marin.

I seriously think this is something your are not part of.

Glad you are ok with someone flying next to you while on a bike or a ped at twice the posted limit.

you go.

We all have those certain little things that push our buttons. But without disagreements and personal attacks, this place would be boring as hell.

Indeed. Any LEO in most states can issue a ticket based on visual evidence.

I'd love to go against the attorney that fails to do this:

Attorney: Officer, how did you estimate the speed of my clients car?
Me: With my eyes.
Attorney: And you are reasonably accurate with your estimate of moving objects?
Me: Yes (if I say no, it wins his case)
Attorney: /throws ball across court
How fast was that going officer?
Me: /dumb look on face

Visual evidence = radar/pacing in todays courtrooms.

I got pulled over for speeding three times so far. One time, I was speeding on purpose, because of my emotional state. I fully deserved the ticket, so I just paid it, IIRC. It wasn't cheap.

The other two times, I got warnings. One was for doing 42 in a 30mph zone (which isn't really posted), and the other time, I was doing 80mph on a 65 highway. In fact, I didn't quite notice how fast I was going downhill, and when I noticed, I told my friend, "hey, look at that, I'm doing 80". Well, around the next bend there was a cop on the median, and he pulled me over. How I got away with only a warning, God only knows.

I generally don't speed "excessively". Maybe 3-5 over in the city, or 5 over highway. But some areas I don't speed at all, as they are known speed traps. Sometimes I drive under the speed limit, especially if it's dark and rainy and I can't see the road all that well.

I also don't slow down unneccesarily in the snow, I try to keep some momentum.

Yeah, you try that and see how it goes. Officers are trained and tested to estimate how fast an AUTOMOBILE is going with their eyes and their word is taken as fact because of their qualifications
