Flip or rotate their video output (usually can be programmed to a soft-key combo).

I did that to a guy in the office I used to work-- he was always really uppity and needed to lighten up. I flipped his screen in the display properties of the video driver CP when he was in the bathroom. He comes back and starts throwing a fit about how much work he needs to get done and what not... the yelling stops after a few minutes so I wander back to his office to see what's up and he says his screen was flipped but he fixed it. I glance at his desk and he has his monitor upside down. I pretty much lost it then and there.

Screwing with people's personal computers is one thing. Screwing with a coworker's computer is another. People have things to do and being disruptive at work because you don't like another coworker should have gotten you fired.

What kind of office do you work in? Srsly, I want to make sure I don't work some place so stuffy they can't tolerate the occasional prank.

I work at Intel testing pre-production and engineering samples. I have to pass through a badged entry any time I pass between the 3 labs I work in, and that's after badging in at the front door. Not only are you not allowed to leave your own cell phone on your own desk if you walk away, you can't leave your laptop open if it's unlocked. You're required to use a privacy screen when you're away from your own cubicle. If you walk away from your laptop and someone wants to be really assholish, they could pick up the laptop, take it to security, and say they found it. Depending on what you're involved in, you might get a slap on the wrist from your super for leaving sensative data exposed. There's a 90 minute presentation on security that you have to take a test about before being given badge access to these labs.

The rules go on and on and on, believe me. It sucks.

However, I've had Engineers who think they're king shit and god's gift to the world come over and just pull the ethernet out of my workstation and plug it in to a different station controller because they want to run a quick test. Thanks assholes! Now my batch testing results (that just happen to be the highest priority) are gone, without the ability to save my work so I have to start over. That means my boss is going to come screaming at me why the batch isn't done yet.

Work is for work. Do your job and go the fuck home if you want to mess with other people. A simple, childish prank that would be AWESOME to play on your mother or someone else who doesn't know how to right-click would be hilarious to pull at home, but can very easily snowball into trouble at work. There's a time and a place for acting like a child and it's not on the clock

I'm going to have to say your experience is not the norm. Badge access between labs is hardly something to complain about and no one in their right mind would take your laptop and turn it into security for no reason. I've never heard of someone taking a network cable from a computer someone was using and plugging it into something else. It sounds like you've had a single bad experience or there is a rotten apple near your cube and you are passing it off as the way the company works.

Also, maybe you should learn how to use netbatch if you want things to finish quickly. I never use my personal workstation for that, regardless of the priority.
