No I did not get one this year, I got the flu instead. I am still not completely well but you can bet I will be getting the shot next season for sure. This is a miserable sickness.

fuck, calling people dumbasses is not going to help convince those who dont feel the need for a flu shot. flu shiot people are like mac vs apple arguments lol.

me, i just dont like the idea of injecting my body with a weakenes/killed virus thats only good for one year, and thats Maybe. vaccinations are great because they have a specific target.. sorry, but my body my choice. unless the shot is mandated, it will always lose effectiveness because someone will catch it and spread it.

Don't give them ideas.

Nope. I had Guillain Barre syndrome in 2006, and therefore have an elevated risk of getting it again. Flu shot is a known GBS trigger, so I'm not risking it.

Havent gotten one in years, havent gotten sick yet

You are a doctor, you get 'immunized' from all sorts of weird shit every day

Our family didn't get one this year for no particular reason and overall this has been the healthiest year I can remember. Hmmmmm....

A nurse friend of ours said she thinks they may have to shut down some schools because the flu has been so bad this year.

Already had the flu so I'm all good...

Nothing like 3 days of puking... had 103.5 fever and felt like shit for about a week & 1/2

It's not fun kids!

Not necessarily. There are many strains and you can still get the flu again with a different virus.

Getting bad here in Western PA. They have doctors on the radio telling people not to go to the doctor for the flu, just call in and they will issue a prescription if necessary. ERs getting crowded. One manager was sick at home and was supposed to do a video call with HQ but said he couldn't even lift his head off his pillow to sit up, and had to cancel it.

The flu shot usually puts me down for 2 or 3 days. So I take my chances. Either way, I must never get the flu because the times I've gotten the shot I have statistically the same number of sick days used as the years I don't get the shot.

So I'm done with it until it's a 1 time all protecting shot.

I got mine in early December. I've never gotten one in the past but after hearing about how bad it was getting and finding out that my insurance covered the shot, I figured I might as well get it. It's pretty bad in and around Philly too; I hear on the news that the hospitals are getting so overcrowded that they're setting up tents on the grounds to take on the overflow.

Since I've been telecommuting I haven't been getting out as much, so I hadn't gotten a flu shot in recent years. But it sounds like this flu season is worse than usual, so I got shot yesterday.

12 hours of hell and power puking, 12 hours of sleep, a day or so of recovery, then back to normal. They call it the 24 hour flu for a reason. It generally last's 24 hours. I rather go through that then have a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, headache, sinus congestion, etc... dragging on for weeks and weeks.

The flu is overrated, it's not as bad as the media wants you to think. There are many worse things you can catch such as strep throat, a cold, shingles, C Diff etc

what if you have have some work that you can't miss in those 24 hours?

Sounds about right, and I rather have that gang of truckers beat me for a bit and get it over with than have a cold dragging on for weeks.

Unless you were sick for many days with coughing, high fever, you didn't have the flu. Most people with a cold are symptom free after 10 days, but people with flu often develop a residual and persistent cough that can last for weeks. You likely never had a flu.

For what? There is no drug once you have it full blown. I hope they are not handing out antibiotics like candy since people just know that will fix a flu virus.

There are antiviral drugs for influenza that help to mitigate the symptoms if administered early enough.

Influenza rarely causes vomiting. Those who were puking probably had Norovirus. Also, flu lasts several days to weeks, while Norovirus typically lasts 24-48 hours.
