im sooo pissed off at www.gotapex.com. they were running a private sale for a laptop for 1675. we agreed to 1600. then the next day, i received an email that the laptop was sold. he never emailed me back to explain the situation. he gave me his number and i gave him a call... basically he backed out of the deal to sell the laptop for 1750. i hope no one goes through the same bull that i went through. then the kicker is... he just said sorry and hung up on me. if anyone finds a good laptop deal... i would appreciate it if you let me know. i need one.

Actually, I think this is a problem when going between the forums. I've noticed that when I switch between the forums, the forum identifier doesn't change (i.e. - I'm in 'Hot Deals' and switch over to the 'For Sale' forum. The content changes and I can see what's for sale, but the forum still indicates 'Hot Deals').

In all fairness, I don't think the sale was by Apex, but was by a friend he was posting it for - hence the Private Party designation. If you look at his site, sales of his stuff is listed as Got Apex - (description) and this sale is listed as Private Party - (description). The email link for his sales simply is a link that says I WANT IT and emails to apex@gotapex.com, whereas the Sony laptop said &quot;By the Sony DGM F390 directly from seller.&quot; and then had a link reading I WANT IT that emailed to the person you communicated with.

You were not communicating with Apex, but simply a friend or user of the site.

Main reason GotApex? sucks now is because of Apex's greedyness. I mean, he's EXTREMELY greedy. You see referral links left and right. The good members pretty much already left the site, so now the deals that we see here you see on GotApex like 3-4 days later. And there they talk crap about Anandtech...

thinking about what people replied... i guess i agree with all the flames to an extend. i think a thread that teaches people how not to get sucked into bad deals is just as valid as getting good deals on the net... a lesson to others on how to judge between the legit and the shadey. and if someones going to put something on their website... all though it was a private sale... their reputation and good name as a source of deals is on the line was well. the administrator personally saw the item and endorsed it by being the guys friend.

Funny, on dvdtalk the site owner (Geoff) does the same thing but the users don't consider that greedy and the site is really popular. Also, it's not like Anand is paying money out of his pocket to run this site, see that banner at the top? Anand could make alot more money from this site if he did the referral thing too and I wouldn't care if he did or not either, he the owner so he can do what he wants.

i used to be a frequent visitor to gotapex but seriously the site lacks up to date info. and lately the site has been a simple way for apex and his friends to get referrals. yes there is nothing wrong with that if you dont have a problem with it yourself. but let's get real here. like someone pointed out, his deals are rarely his own findings. the deals on there totally bites. and as of recently, the site has been more of an auction site than anything else. the sad thing is that many people still think gotapex is the sh*t. sadly they're ignorant to what gotapex has grown to, a hot deals regurgitated site with personal auctions and personal gains. it's &quot;not for the people&quot; anymore as i believe gotapex used to be and apex himself use to say.

A friend just pointed out this thread to me, and it's the first I'm hearing about it. It seems to be to be a simple misunderstanding. Although I don't have control over what happens in transactions like this, I do stand behind those I post. I just simply ask that people come to me first if they have a problem. Often we can get it solved without too much grief.

Hey,
I just sort of studied this in Law class. If there is a contract (both sides agree to a deal at said price) and the seller backs out to sell to a later offer of a higher amount, that is a tort called CONTRACT INTERFERENCE. The screwed person can sue the seller for fraud and the person who offered the higher amount for contract interference. It's just funny I was just studying this and this popped up. I see its just a misunderstanding, so hope this info helps anyone else...
