Same here...shopped there for 20 years too. I read a lot of problems and it seems like most are caused by someone doing something out of the ordinary.

The other problems are caused by idiots being offended when the people working there ask questions.

Best Buy: This printer doesn't come with a USB cable. Do you need any USB cables? We have a great selection of Monster Cables.
ATOTer: OMG STOP TRYING TO UPSELL ME. FUCK YOU.

Best Buy: Printers have a lot of moving parts. Would you like our in-store product warranty? It's only $30.
ATOTer: SCREW YOU AND YOUR PRODUCT WARRANTY

They refused to price match Frys on a Samsung tv because "they must be trying to get rid of them or get a bulk discount". What's the point of advertising price matching if you refuse if the deal is too good?

Sucks to be you, my local BB will price match Amazon.com. I've done it multiple times and never had a problem.

And your BB is still in business? Where is your local BB? I'm surprised it hasn't been shut down. All the ones in Socal I went to don't PM, either lie about stock, pretend to call the other stores but then lie to you that the other store has a different model, etc.

Case in point: Sears had a tv at a great price, I wanted to buy it at BB since they had the great financing deals for no interest for 24 months. I went to the TV department to get a price match. I gave them the Sear's store number and model and told them it was selling at the the sale price. The CSR goes to speak with his manager and takes 30 minutes to get back to me. He tells me that it's a different model so they can't pricematch. So I went to the Sear's store and got it that same day.

Actually had no problems at my local bestbuy today buying a tv. never really had problems.

Was simple enough witht he guy i got. Had him explain difference between the two sets i was interested in. picked one and he ran and got it. Simply asked if i had hdmi cables and al the stuff for HD viewing, i said yes, he responded with awesome and kept checking me out. Did mention the plan but only a quick 15 second intro then asked if i might be interested. I'd already planned on getting the plan (damn little kids i know if i didnt there would be crayon all over it in a day) so was quick and easy.

As for those saying they lie, call them out on it. If i knew for a fact their online policy was A and went to a store and they didnt honor it, i'd be asking for the general manager right there. Or call up sears and when you confirm what you already know....there in quite the pickle. I know when i worked retail we would always pull up the stuff on the computers and show the customers. Show them the number in stock and at store

I go to multiple locations, the one in Riverside I can say I've walked in there 5 different times with nothing but a printed screen capture of an item cheaper at Frys and got it for the PM'ed price. And 3 of those times the lady didn't even verify what I handed her was legit, she just did an overring and I got the difference back. The one in Durate price matched me and my dad multiple times for items on Amazon. I've also had good PM luck at the one in Yorba Linda & Cerritos.

I had to censor that post to soften the shock to be experienced by anyone reading the thread
I am more shocked that this happened simply because I used to work in their tech dept. Too many times I had to console angry customers because BB management wouldn't treat them right. I really felt bad for them...

Recently bought a new receiver. Listed for $1200 on Denon website. BB could only offer it to me for $1100, but that one ran out of stock and the only BB in town with inventory would not honor the offer--they wanted list.

I bought from another authorized dealer and got it for $800, delivered (and no tax). Magnolia/BB failed.

Recently I bought a new projector. Listed for $6500. BB wanted $4500 for the lesser model. I got it from another authorized dealer for $3K. Magnolia/BB failed.

The closest BB/Magnolia can come to saying they got a major sale out of me with a video console. Yet, in the past five years I've spent $30K on electronics and appliances.

Oh yeah, the two older projectors didn't come from BB. The two plasmas and three LCD's didn't come from BB. Speakers did. Five Blu-ray players didn't. My LG washer & dryer upstairs and downstairs didn't.

Oh well, I am sure they get enough suckers since they are still around. Not that all their customers are suckers. ^_^

Since Best Buy has eased up on the extended warranty pressure I hate them less. They're staffed by people who typically are far from experts, but I generally know what I want and do my own research before I buy a bigger ticket item, so that's no big deal. I used to hate buying anything, at any price it seemed, and they would push that extended warranty on me. No, I don't want your 4 year service plan for $19.99 on a pair of crap speakers I bought that cost me $29.99, and I don't want to have to explain this to 5 different people as I try and make the purchase.

I've never had anyone but the cashier ask me about the extended warranty. I'm not sure why so many of you deal with 4 or 5 BB employees when buying something that you can just go up and grab off the shelf.

just thought I'd share this, I walked into a best buy for about 15 minutes today and NO ONE BOTHERED ME ABOUT NEEDING ANY HELP! I was so shocked, at some points I even thought I looked like I didn't know what I wanted to buy, but no one came up and pestered me. It was incredible.

I had a few bad experiences with Best Buy years ago to the point where I swore it off forever.

However, I then got a new job that moved me from being REALLY close to a Fry's to being REALLY close to a BB, so I gave them another chance.

Nothing negative to report in the last 6 years or so.

my one issue was back when the 56k modems came out. i purchased one and when i got it home it was a 28.8 modem. the box was shrink wrapped and undamaged.

needless to say i was not happy.

i'm not sure you can blame BB for that one though, can you? Especially if it was shrink wrapped.

no one said they were perfect. if you find it somewhere cheaper, get it there. no reason to why like a little bitch over it.

Bought my girlfriend an Ipod for a gift from Best Buy and bought the warranty on it figuring she would drop it cuz she's a clutz. Well the battery went south about a year later and I brought it back to them and they gave me another one. So in that particular instance the warranty was worth it. Haven't bought anything from them since with a warranty but I haven't needed it either.

I wanna know what BB's people on here are going to that have 4-5 people coming up to them asking if they want an extended warranty. I have troubles finding a single person to help me at the few I frequent.

Always buy the extended warranty for your TV's. You do not want to own a 50" plasma that's outside it's manufacturer's warranty. The repair costs alone can sometimes cost more than a brand new TV.

My friend that works at Geek Squad buys laptops for himself and his family with the warranty and just "uses them harshly" then replaces them when they fail. Its a pretty good system because he or one of his friends are the people who authorize the replacements, lol.

BB where I live sucks. Everytime I walk in there I wish I had a Frys in my area.

For a plasma, they probably want $2,000 just for the warranty. When I bought a $700 laptop, they wanted $180 for a 3 year warranty.

Eh....

I usually snag there DVD deals. Sometimes they have good deals on gadgets too. Just be a smart shopper & don't rip yourself off.

I got a cheap GPS that works well from them. Also got a 27" LCD that only lived for a few years. Not the stores fault. Shit happens.

So Best Buy sells expensive cables & always offers extended warranties. Just think for yourself & make a choice.

Best Buy has some good stuff. However so did Circuit City. I got so many good DVD & game deals there.

Are you serious about 18 months no interest? What's the catch?
I'd imagine that the catch is that most people see "no interest" as "omg free stuff!", make the minimum payments for a year and a half, and then act shocked when, on the 19th month, they get socked with 18 months worth of back interest because they didn't pay it off in time.

BTW- I went 8 years without buying a new MP3 player like that I would buy a Creative Labs player, and then when the new ones came out, I would return my old one saying there was something wrong with it. They would give me a new one on the spot. Did that like 4 times between 2000-2007 heheh.
