Sounds like you were in the wrong to me.

oh yeah, and the guy who, leaves space to be safe, purposely sped up and ended up tailgating me, again on purpose, and honk as an expression of anger was in the right, got it. How does that work?

And, said a few times, whether it was him or anyone else, in this amount of "congestion", I would've had to slip into *someone's* space regardless. This was routine, or so it should've been.

That's me! And you're the dickhead who is always passing people just to get a little bit ahead in traffic! Maybe you shouldn't be an ass by not passing in front of people. Unlike you, some people would like to keep a distance between the car in front of them. Unfortunately there are asshat drivers like you who like to fill up all the empty voids just so you can ride on people's asses all the way to their destination.

This is what I don't understand about "revenge". You got past him and could have gone on your way, but instead you forced him to go under the speed limit by going slow yourself, the exact same thing that angered you in the first place. If you hadn't gotten in front of him, the end result would have been exactly the same - both of you going slower than the limit, except he would have been in front.

So how did you "win"?

I didn't, and I'm not saying it was the right thing to do.

His behavior was so ridiculous, obnoxious, and passive aggressive that I couldn't let it go. I don't even think he did it on purpose, I think that he saw that he was getting passed, and instinctively assumed that he was going too slow, so he got on the gas. Then he realized that he was going faster than the car in front of him, so he cut me off, and finally, after cutting me off, realized that he had accelerated beyond the speed he wanted to go, so he slowed down again. Sometimes I catch myself speeding up a bit when a car is passing me. It's not that I'm trying to race, it subconscious. I think people are just naturally competitive. Whenever I catch myself doing it I slow down and make sure the guy has an easy time passing.

I dropped back, waited for an opening in the middle or right lane, moved past him, and slowed down until he was forced to slow down too, it was gradual, not a "brake check". I think he realized that I was upset at him for something, because he dropped back and got into the right lane and did not try to pass. So then I just resumed my original speed and didn't see him again. I'm definitely not saying I "won", I guess I just had push back a bit and I'm not the type to blow my horn put my high beams on.

You're probably still the idiot that does that. Not to mention the fact that you probably should've been in the lane in the first place. When you do shit like that and others do things like that, it usually is because those are assholes who are constantly cutting in line, and this point and the details was discussed in this thread ad-nauseum.

I never got that stereotype. I know that asian women can be terrible drivers at times but on a per capita basis, asians get in less accidents than the average.

You must also be Asian...Everyone else gets the stereotype...and it definitely exists for good reasons.

I do that on purpose to people who appear to wait until the last minute to get into their lane so that they might be able to get 1-3 cars ahead.

Get in your lane, wait your f'ing turn. Don't get into the faster lane and expect me to let you over at the last second.

What if you're probably wrong? How does he or anyone know I did it at the "last minute" on streets with numerous turns? I had 2 more blocks to go and he didn't know that anyway. At what point does one get in without braking and causing people behind him to have to brake too? I got in pretty smoothly to be honest. I didn't even have to brake afterward as I was already at matched speed with their lane.

Look at it this way, whenever someone jumps ahead of me like that, I don't need to brake if they do it right. We're all going the same direction and they didn't slow down as they jumped in. Learn to drive.

Yes yes, and all Americans are fat... so the irony of having a health & fitness forum on AT is mindboggling. Did I get it right?

Oh wait, I'm asian and american... I thought asians were skinny?! The skinny asian american chick across the street from me drives a new M3 to work everyday... probably to compensate for how bad of a driver she is...

2nd reply and the thread was already over. OP is an ass and I hate people like him. I don't like driving bumper to fucking bumper so don't squeeze your ass in front of me just because you couldn't have been bothered to prepare for your turn. I wish people like the OP missed their turns more often, but they end up barrel-assing their way into the lane anyways.

I don't know the situation with the OP (I haven't read all the posts), if there were cars behind the other car or not, but I know how the other guy in the OP feels if there weren't.

A car can drive 10 mph under the speed limit all it wants when its behind me. I am somewhat less understanding when they are in front of me. I don't know if you're that guy or not...but I'd rather not take the chance!

Heh, naw, I only apply that logic when its an old dude, tractor or a volvo usually.

They have no concept of "good" or "bad" drivers because they arent thinking about such things. They are usually thinking about the song on the radio, how their day went, or how it will go. Usually a quick beep wakes them up, but can occasionally make them even more confused, as is the case with old people. These folks are annoying but generally not too bad overall. Anybody can fit in this category but teenage girls and old people from both genders seem to be the most common. Middle age asian women are often in this group as well. Also, sometimes during morning rush hour many people will fall into this group temporarily. People who are very focused on everything BUT driving can be found here as well, such as the soccer mom swatting kids in the back seat.

2 - Mario Andretti wannabe's. This type is FAR more dangerous since they deliberately do stupid things on a regular basis until they either cause a collision and die, or get into such a bad accident the state pulls their license and takes their car. They are especially bad because they think they are excellent drivers. Not because they are familiar with the rules of the road but because they think they are Mario Andretti, and can do whatever they want, when they want. These are frequently young people from all walks of life but suburban males of the white and asian variety can often be found in this category at any age. Please note this category can be short term, such as when a normal person suddenly decides they are allowed to drive on the shoulder or run through red lights. As such, MANY people can fall in this group for a few minutes everyday but be normal at other times.
As a general rule, professional drivers do NOT behave like this on public roads because they know better.

You know, I actually like the Mario Andretti's better...because I KNOW what they're going to do and I know they're paying attention. I know he's going to cut me off with constant crazy lane changes and drive aggressive, I can watch his line of thought. The space cadets? I have no fucking idea...they might just swerve into my lane while they pet their dog and kill me and I'd never see it coming. Or suddenly they'll be going 5 miles per hour while they dig through their purse on the freeway.

Yes, you're the asshole here. Just turn on your signal and slow until there's a spot you can move into. And plan ahead a little.

I'm totally tempted to make a generalization about people who take "dramatic" photos of their car and put them on the internet and how they're statistically more likely to be aggressive drivers. But I won't.

Well, we would need to know the proportions of your Asianess and Americaness. If it's 1:1 then they balance out. If it's 2:1 (Asian:American) then you are on the skinnier side. If it's 1:2 then you are a tad large for your size

My mom was saying how my great grandmother used to do this stupid move...when riding a horse drawn wagon and some one else with a wagon tried to pass her. Apparently, this crazy behavior predates the automobile.

LET ME PUT THIS IN CAPS SINCE YOU DIDN'T READ WHAT I'VE WRITTEN CLEARLY. I WOULD WRITE IT IN COLOR IF I COULD, JUST FOR YOU.

WE DROVE ANOTHER 2 BLOCKS BEFORE I HAD TO TURN, SO IT WASN'T THAT LATE, SO YOU FAIL AGAIN. HE ACTUALLY TURNED OFF BEFORE I DID.

THAT, IN ADDITION TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS A TURNING LANE I JUMP INTO SO HE NEVER WOULD HAVE HAD TO BRAKE. HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN BOTHERED REGARDLESS.

2 BLOCKS BEFORE A TURN ON A LOCAL ROAD IS PLANNING AHEAD. EVEN IF I DID THIS IN FRONT OF HIM THE BLOCK BEFORE, THIS SAME THING WOULD HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY HE HAS MENTAL ISSUES FOR PASSING VEHICLES. HIS SPACE WAS THE MOST AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME OF "RUSH HOUR". READ THIS PARAGRAPH AGAIN.

I TRIGGERED NOTHING, HE MADE ME HIS PROBLEM ON PURPOSE. YOU'RE SAYING I'M THE ASSHOLE FOR DOING WHAT? PASSING A GUY WHO WAS JUST CRUISING, WHO I DID NOT CUT OFF?
