I did this to someone today. Because they were to the right of me, swerved around behind me, and tried to pass me (in heavy traffic). I keep about 1.5-2 car lengths ahead of me and I knew this person was going to try and cut in front of me, so I sped up. By the time they started getting over, the spot was a lot smaller than it was before, but they didn't care.

Yeah, I used to think that too, until I got angry and crashed into a dude.
Now I realize that we should think about our actions, at least while on the road.

I hate people that find it necessary to speed up to get in front of me so they can hurry up and make their turn. Why can't they wait and get behind me to make their turn? I would have given you the bird too.

especially when there is a 15 car space behind me. just because im a "slow ass truck" doesnt mean you need to be directly in front of me.

EDIT>> yes I signal as always.

Wow... fail driver. If your turn is coming up how about you merge into the lane you need a mile or so back when you can take your time?? What?? Is the turn a surprise for you everyday? I hate drivers like you who think 5 feet is a sufficient following distance for 30+ mph traffic.

I was driving home from Home Depot today and the car in front of me took my exact route home. One of the first streets we hit is very curvy, and he wasn't staying in the lane at first. Thought something might be wrong (drunk? in need of help? who knows...) so I was keeping an eye on him as I drove behind him. Right before I get to my street, he pulls over and waves his hand signaling me to pass him. As I do, he was shouting something at me (had my windows up, couldn't tell what was said). Turned on my street and went home with him following behind me. We pulled into our respective driveways. Turns out he lives like 3 houses down and across the street from me. I don't know if he was paranoid I was "following" him or if he felt I was following too closely? Definitely weird.

Well, I'd comment on how your an ass etc like the other posters before me, but coming from the Chicago area, I know how shitty traffic can get, bumper to bumper, moving from 5-15mph for what seems like an endless eternity, then after an hour finally making it like 10 miles, your exit comes up in a mile, and you need to get over, but everybody's blocking you from changing lanes, so you finally find a spot, and the jackass decides to block you....

I hate driving on congested roads. In the suburbs I can deal with it, but if I have to go into the city, then fvck that, I'm taking the god damned train..

You know how many times someone has sped up to get in front of me so they can get into a turn lane when there isn't a car behind me for 500 feet? I don't understand the mentality. It's like people forget you can actually slow down and get behind someone. I don't know the situation with the OP (I haven't read all the posts), if there were cars behind the other car or not, but I know how the other guy in the OP feels if there weren't.

OP fails. Just get behind him or the guy tailing behind him and stfu. Don't cut people off because you waited too long to get over.

2 types of drivers I can't stand:

-those that feel they don't have to wait in line, especially to merge, and will run the other lane all the way up, then force their way into line at the last second

-those that believe that by putting on their turn signals, they now have the right of way, and must be allowed in, regardless of whether there's room for their car or not

Sorry, OP, but you FAIL

I know what you mean on the first one, we have lots of construction around here. Most cars will get in the lane that we know passes through the construction area. Some people love to ride as far up as they can in the lane that ends so they slow down everyone that got in line. If more people would just get in line then there'd be so much less slowing down where the lane ends... but everyone is in a hurry... I guess to them there's a huge difference between getting to work at 7:37 vs. 7:40. The irony of it is that many of these people spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars a month on a car payment to drive the car like they can't wait to get out of it.

OP, why didn't you just slow down and get behind the other cars since you were turning just ahead anyway? This seems more reasonable than cutting in front of the other cars so you can brake as you approach your turn...

Sorry dude, but it seems this thread has turned on you.

I was driving yesterday on a two lane highway. There were two or three cars in the left lane going under the speed limit, so I moved over to the empty right lane to get past them (dumb mofos don't understand the concept of 'Stay right except to pass'). As I was driving next to the car that was previously in front of me, the driver began to shift lanes to exit (i.e. right into me). I was able to prevent a collision by driving to the right because the off ramp was there, and then the driver realized I was there and jerked back to the left. This driver gets a double dumbass award because A) She was in the left lane and not passing anyone and B) She didn't look to her right before she changed lanes (Seriously, she didn't even have to use a mirror as I was right next to her). She deserved a ticket for reckless driving.

it was rush hour traffic (check my time) on a 2 lane local road, not highway - and I would've had to jump in somewhere with all of us doing maybe 40... this guy or the guy behind him... it didn't matter... my lane provided me the space to get that speed and jumping into this hole, which it clearly was, whether or not he wanted "safe distance" was there for the taking... and being "a man" he had to show that he wasn't going to have it. And I'm the asshole for doing what again? All he had to do was maintain his speed and none of this would've even come across anyone's mind tonight... but no, he had to be the man who can't let someone go faster than him. He literally accelerated and I still easily got in front of him... I didn't cut him off but he thinks so. He made me his problem.

Those who think I'm the idiot are basically saying he was right to speed up. Yeah, what a great driver!

yes, I hate this too, it happens on the highway with people merging in and it's stupid. There's NOBODY behind me yet they had to get past me... but that's not what happened today. In my situation it was busy with cars through and through.

the stereotype is that asians are retarded behind the wheel... as in slow and indecisive. That's different from idiots who speed up for no reason. BTW, if he wanted his safe distance he surely wasn't being very safe speeding up like that. Idiot.

Reading comprehension failure. I didn't cut him off. If I sped up everytime someone changed into my lane, I could say they cut me off... yeah, that's gonna be a no. We drove another 2 blocks before I had to turn, so it wasn't that late, so you fail again. He actually turned off before I did.

Because people made assumptions. I would've jumped into any spot with all these cars just the same... I was just lucky enough to find this guy. Score.

I'm going to quote you twice because you're just that good. Tell me something, do you love it when you follow someone who then brakes just to get into the other lane causing you to brake too? You love it don't you? What I did was the smoothest and easiest way to go about it for everyone and wouldn't have bothered anyone, except macho men. Macho men who flip 2 birds in 1 shot because he got overtaken while at cruising speed. I wish I could've gotten a picture, he looked like a genuine lunatic doing it.

I have two general types I dont like, and pretty much all bad drivers fall into those categories:

1 - Space heads. Folks who dont pay attention, dont signal, and in general forget there are other people on the road. They have no concept of "good" or "bad" drivers because they arent thinking about such things. They are usually thinking about the song on the radio, how their day went, or how it will go. Usually a quick beep wakes them up, but can occasionally make them even more confused, as is the case with old people. These folks are annoying but generally not too bad overall. Anybody can fit in this category but teenage girls and old people from both genders seem to be the most common. Middle age asian women are often in this group as well. Also, sometimes during morning rush hour many people will fall into this group temporarily. People who are very focused on everything BUT driving can be found here as well, such as the soccer mom swatting kids in the back seat.

2 - Mario Andretti wannabe's. This type is FAR more dangerous since they deliberately do stupid things on a regular basis until they either cause a collision and die, or get into such a bad accident the state pulls their license and takes their car. They are especially bad because they think they are excellent drivers. Not because they are familiar with the rules of the road but because they think they are Mario Andretti, and can do whatever they want, when they want. These are frequently young people from all walks of life but suburban males of the white and asian variety can often be found in this category at any age. Please note this category can be short term, such as when a normal person suddenly decides they are allowed to drive on the shoulder or run through red lights. As such, MANY people can fall in this group for a few minutes everyday but be normal at other times.
As a general rule, professional drivers do NOT behave like this on public roads because they know better.

Most bad drivers can fit into one of those categories. Overlap is difficult, since someone who is doing something deliberately stupid is often paying very close attention to their actions. Thats one of the reasons they believe they are good drivers. And people not paying attention generally dont race around or deliberately break rules.

I gave the fist to some soccer mom on Wednesday. Was turning left, and there were no openings until the light turned red. So, I waited until I saw the all cars stopped since so many people, including me, are guilty of accelerating to get through a yellow. Bitch got annoyed tat I didn't want to risk effing up my car.

And feel free to cut infront of me while driving. I use the 3 second rule, and let people in normally. We all catch up at the next red anyways.

Said several times before. You should be driving in such a manner that you do not need to speed up to slide into someone else's coasting space (a space that is generally used so that I don't have to speed up to slow down in rush hour traffic that causes the whipping effect that we all love so much).

Sounds like you were in the wrong to me.

I never got that stereotype. I know that asian women can be terrible drivers at times but on a per capita basis, asians get in less accidents than the average.
