Those Sony WEGAs weighed upwards of 300 pounds, so try more like 10-15x the weight of the lcd. Not to mention the dimensions and weight distribution make it especially hard to transport.

BTW, I'm not sure if I agree CRTs have better picture quality. They suck for clarity, especially high resolutions, they just can't do 1:1 pixel matching and the image gets blurred. I suppose that's not so bad for TV/movie watching, but for anything with text in it, I'll take an LCD. High end LCDs, to my eyes, have refresh times good enough and color accuracy close enough. (I'd be pressed to say colors may look even more vivid on an LCD than a CRT)

many of those wide screen crt tvs claimed hd resolution but couldn't resolve cr@p because of their coarse dot pitch

Truth. If the screen can't resolve it, picture quality is horrid for next gen consoles and PCs. (I still have a HDTV CRT, picked it up in 2006 for ~$400 before good LCDs were affordable) It's not bad for 480p or just watching movies though.
And if the screen can resolve high resolutions (and even the best could only do about 1440i), then it weighs an extra 100 pounds.

You'd have to pay me to take a Sony product. And as soon as you turned your back I'd throw it in the trash where it belongs.

Also lol @ huge, heavy heat sources that happen to have a 640x480 screen attached to them.

Different needs. People liking LCDs does not make them dumb.
I use a CRT for my desktop because it was cheap and I like the black level and color representation, and I don't mind the added size and weight of it (at 70lbs, it's not exactly fun to move around).

What are you talking about? I had a XBR450 and threw a resolution pattern on it - showed 1100x1080.

This is what is sad. People just don't care about picture quality as long as they can hang it on their wall. That's why folks buy LCDs - they just don't care about picture quality.

I felt the same way until I got one. There's a lot to be said for smaller size, weight and less heat produced - and I'm into weightlifting, I'd imagine the weight issue of CRTs is a bigger concern for most people, especially on AT. Most of us need or already wear glasses anyway, and the difference in picture is not striking anyway. Whatever LCDs lack in contrast and darks they more than make up for with their aforementioned advantages and not having to fiddle with shape adjustors for hours on end to end up with a still-uneven picture.

Very intelligent post. Thank you for your input. Your mother would be proud of you.

So many people here are so insulting and negative...I just don't get it, what is wrong with all of your negative comments? Sorry I got excited and happy! ILL MAKE SURE I NEVER DO IT AGAIN!

------

Why do people keep talking about weight? How many of you move your TV on a day to day basis? All of you are acting like you have to carry your TV with you to every room of the house...I moved it into my house, put it on my stand, and bam! there ya go, it'll be there for years. I just see weight as a irrelevant issue once its moved to where it needs to go.

And last time I checked, LCD aren't THAT LIGHT! I had to help my friend move his new 47inch LCD into his apartment and let me tell you that wouldn't be too easy for a single person to do...if not impossible. It has to weight at least 100 pounds.

There's an entire category of people, called college students, that find themselves regularly moving their stuff, and where space is an issue (dorm rooms, you know). I'm not saying everyone here is a college student living in a dorm, but many are, and for them space and weight are obviously issues. Your "GOTTA LOVE PEOPLE iWANTING LCD'S!!!" makes it seem like you think that these people don't have good reason for using and wanting LCDs. Many do.

I'm satisfied right now with my CRT TV and my CRT monitor, but I've had LCDs in the past, and can see that they aren't bad on the lower end right now, and on the higher end they can be very good. People with high end builds, using multiple screens in particular, definitely see the benefit of using LCDs vs CRTs. Your OMG! I HAVE A CRT! I'M BETTER THAN YOU! argument doesn't hold much water as a blanket statement.

CRTs are good for a lot of people, and LCDs are good for a lot of people as well. No reason for a competitive spirit or an aggressive superiority stance. Use what works best for your situation, and let others use what works best for their situation. Technological pragmatism.

Don't listen to the haters, you got a good deal.

On the weight issue, my 34xbr800 weighs 207 lbs. In the 6 years I've owned it, I've moved it a grand total of three times. Even as skinny as I am, I have little trouble moving it if I have a friend to help out..
Power usage is more of a concern than weight, Imo.

Today I purchased a 34 inch Sony WEGA HD WIDESCREEN CRT television...for...wait for it...$150!!! The seller while at his house showed me the new TV he was getting...a 32 inch 720p LCD...

I just find it funny how people think that just cause something is a few years old its just not worth anything anymore...this Sony just a few years ago was something like $1500. Rediculous!

Anyone else have any stories of getting "older" tech for extremely cheap due to dumb people?

Around here i can get a 50" for that price. I dont see big DLP's going for anymore than 250-300.

Ive moved 6 times in the last 6 years. I can move my 42" LCD by myself with no problem what so ever. Fits in the back seat of a car, and weighs well under 100lbs. Before this TV I had a 36" CRT TV, didnt fit in the back seat of a car, couldnt be moved without two people. Even with two people moving it up a flight or two of stairs was a bitch.

HD Cable and BluRay look just fine on my LCD.

I'll give you $150 to dispose of it for you.

You're a quarter of the way there.

And thats the reason no one seems to want it. Because you want $600 for a used piece of equipment that will be worth half that by the end of the year (if it isnt already) and can be had brand new for a little bit more than what you want for it.

Brand new Sony 42" 1080p from BestBuy... $800

Can probably get a Dynex/Olevia or lesser brand for less than what you want for your used item...
