I love how this craze for "new" technology is making people rush out to get all these new electronics whilst getting rid of their old perfectly capable technology.

Today I purchased a 34 inch Sony WEGA HD WIDESCREEN CRT television...for...wait for it...$150!!! The seller while at his house showed me the new TV he was getting...a 32 inch 720p LCD...

I just find it funny how people think that just cause something is a few years old its just not worth anything anymore...this Sony just a few years ago was something like $1500. Rediculous!

Anyone else have any stories of getting "older" tech for extremely cheap due to dumb people?

you probably should consider that that 34" CRT weights probably 3X more than the LCD, takes up 3X more space than the LCD, and probably does not have HDMI inputs.

Not to mention the power\heat consumption on those monsters.

I literally don't know anyone who still has a CRT anything, TV or monitor.

Unfortunately I rarely find good deals.

Honestly though I don't think I'd pick up a CRT these days, I really like the smaller footprint of flatscreens. But in general I'm the person holding onto the old tech that still works fine as opposed to getting the latest and greatest to keep up with the Joneses.

It probably weighs 4X as much as the LCD, but it does have an HDMI input.

I used to own a Sony 36" HS420 model. Still miss the picture quality as it had the deepest blacks.

You forgot that it also probably takes 3x the power too and generates 3x the heat.

DAMN! A lot of hostility!!!

I'm just saying...I thought it kinda dumb to get rid of a superior, although larger, display for something that is in no way equal in picture quality. And I doubt most people think about "saving energy" when going from CRT to LCD...its all about looking "cool".

And it is heavy, bout 200 pounds!

In either case, despite size or power consumption, its still a deal that can't be beat in my opinion.

If I had the space for the CRT as a third TV, I wouldn't mind it at all. Those were some beautiful sets.

For sure. The Sony CRT will beat up on the picture quality of a common LCD TV. For $150.00! People, it's not like you have to go and lift the tv 3 times a day. Also on a CRT HDMI doesn't really matter. The digital to analog conversion can take place in the DVD player or the cable box and then be connected with component cables.

Of course this AT where anyone without a quad and 8 gb of ram will struggle running Photoshop :roll:

Exactly...I mean, honestly, if I had the space on my desk I would happily stop the use of my LCD for a nice CRT...used to own a Sony Trinitron 22 inch flat CRT and it was absolutely breath taking, especially at 1920x1080...

CRTs are still the superior screen, but damn they just get so big and heavy!

*cough* Well for MY work I certainly struggle. I can't stand a lot of CRTs now. In the past year I became sensitive to that high pitch that happens when they turn on. Of course, they're all usually a little older.

Here I will disagree except for pro graphics work. Like ninjitsu fine arts pro. The current IPS panels are really good now with minimal color shift and good blacks.

For general PC use, the sharpness of a good LCD can really reduce eyestrain. However TN panels blow, especially older ones.

I have a 17" PVA and it's great, except for really dark photos, which is a known limitation of the technology. You need to look a little from the side. But the blacks on this thing are deep, which is nice, since I used to have a Sony FD Trinitron
