I've heard of it. Not only that, I've seen it. When I was in my twenties I participated in a rescue operation at White Pass here in Washington.

Hundreds of starving animals; emaciated to the point that they looked like skeletons; fur falling out all over their bodies; infections that created open oozing sores. In short, the kind of stuff that would make a guy like you cry.

Despite our efforts, most of these animals died, many while we were trying to get food to them. We could do nothing but watch as they'd gasp for their last breath, and convulse in pain.

You tell me that is more humane then hunting. YOU are the one who is ignorant.

And, BTW, I don't hunt. I never have simply because I, personally, could not shoot an animal. But, that experience convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt that hunting is a GOOD thing.

I don't mind people hunting deer, but don't you think there should be an aiming test to pass Would hate to see a deer be shot repeatedly by some incompetent hunter that couldn't get off a kill shot.

Well that and ban hunting animals in enclosed spaces Saw something about that on dateline where you pay to do that.. that was beyond cruel... not a sport.

Zucchini, that could never happen. Deer have damn good reflexes. As soon as they hear either the twang of the bow string, or the click of the gun, they'll either drop to the ground or jump up in the error. No matter how good your aim is, you won't be able to predict what the deer will do.

We've got a stream (and town) here in New York called Fishkill.

Well, the PETA people wanted the name changed because it was offensive to them.

The fact is, there are many streams in NY with &quot;kill&quot; in their name because the Dutch settlers named the streams and &quot;kill&quot; in dutch is &quot;stream&quot;.

When the PETA folks learned of this, they didn't care and still wanted the name changed. LOL! What a bunch of ass wipes.

I'm all for animal rights, but at some point people have to stop living in happy land where all the bunnies and birds and flowers can live in harmony and wake up to reality. If you're going to try to make a difference at least do it in an inteligent way, otherwise you make your cause look idiotic.

Red, I said Grizzly simply because I couldn't remember what type of bear it was. Anyway, a very good friend of my family went bow hunting for bears in Alberta, CA and ended up tagging the largest bear ever killed with a bow in the providence(at the time). I'm not sure if his record still stands.

I'm thinking that it was a black bear...can't remember though. It was about 8 years ago. He was a taxidermist and ended up doing a full mount of the thing. It was BIG! ~8 foot tall, and about 800 pounds if I recall correctly.

Can't say I'd exactly enjoy hunting a bear with a bow...but you have to admit, it does sort of level the field

Want to learn an interesting and rather scary fact about grizzlies (and Kodiaks)? The U.S. Park Service (might be Forest, can't recall exactly) STRONGLY recommends carrying at LEAST a .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum handgun and preferably a high powered rifle or shotgun with slugs when venturing into bear country in Alaska.

Now, this is interesting because in most other areas covered by the same organization in the lower 48, firearms are prohibited. :Q

Unfortunately the page no longer comes up, but if you follow that google search, one of the first hits that comes up is an Alberta, CA page about record bow kills for black bears. You'll see the name Larry Oppe. That's the guy who I was talking about.
