Let's hope that some of those vests came from stupid hunters. I guess the word stupid is redundant

BWAAHAHAA!

The only thing better would have been if one of those dumb bastards had been gored by a very horny, very aggitated 12 point buck

After hearing about several events like this I have come to the conclusion that the only satisfactory way to deal with these PETA people is to eat them.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Putting a vest on a wild deer is no small task, unless they sedate it. I've had deer caught in fences struggle hard enough to kill themselves. I can't believe that they would react any better in a cage.

If they're hunting them with a tranquilizer gun, then these deer would likely have died during the hunting season anyway. If they can't outsmart a tenderfoot PETA member, the hunters would definately have bagged them. (...or the Buicks)

It would scare the heck out of me to hit a deer wearing blaze orange!! This could be a traffic hazzard. Imagine swerving into oncoming traffic thinking it's a person.

<< Of course if it weren't for the hunt many a deer would die of starvation.I think a good clean shot through the Heart is a lot more humane, for both Deer and Hunter >>

Most of us deer hunters try to go for a lung shot

It's 4 times the size of a heart, and you have two of them to go for

I always like the stories about how they liberated cattle, only for the cows to run across highways and get hit by trucks!

There was one incident that I remember that was fairly recent. The petterasses....er PETA's hit an animal shelter of some sort. They released a whole bunch of guinea pigs, hampsters, dogs, cats, and a couple other things.

Well, it happened that several of the dogs and cats ended up eating the hamsters, girbils, and guniea pigs for dinner

Aren't these the same people that promoted beer over milk because it held more nutritional value?

Maybe next year they should dress up in deer costumes - two per costume - and run around hunting country. They'd save so many real deer because all the hunters would be going after the funny looking ones I mean...it's a worthy sacrifice...I'm sure I could persuade them to do it!

While I don't disagree that there is an overpopulation of deer, or that PETA sometimes has the collective IQ below that of the animals they try to save, I can't help but smirk at the potential for a few dead hunters.

Not much compassion here is there. I personally feel that it is wonderful to treat animals with kindness and respect. They are living beings, just like us. I find it saddening that people find pleasure in hunting down and killing a passive, innocent creature such as this.

Take Care,

Adam

I would have to say that the majority of DEER hunting that goes on is not for the joy of killing. I think of deer as a food product. There is no joy in killing an animal, but as long as you are using as much of the animal as you can, I don't have a problem with it. Besides, as humans become dominant, predators are on the decline, and we have to make up for it by replacing the natural predators with ourselves, or else the deer population outgrows its resources, and they starve do death instead (much less humane than being shot)

I have seen this deer starving due to overpopulation thing before. When I lived in Omaha, NE, they reopened the season (winter 1996-97) because there was not enough food sources for the deer and they were starving. The PETA idiots got upset over the hunting season being reopened even though the deer were literally starving at the very time.

That goes to show that you do not have tohave common sense to be a fervent zealot. Let emotion rule over common sense and you can be a Pinko Commie Liberal card-carrying member of PETA too.

usually i support any efforts to save animals, environment, etc...but that's just retarded. The only pay off from all their efforts would be if the really stupid hicks/hunters kill eachother, and register for the humanitarian award

i remember that there was a sixty minutes a while back on these people going to the grocery stores, demanding that the manager release his lobsters to them-then once the manager refused they bought the lobsters, flew them to maine on a private jet, yes this is true, and put them back in the water, only to be caught and sold once more, the only renewable food source i know of - hehehe

Two things:

ROFL at this backfire. Funny stuff. Deer are brown because it's NATURE'S WAY OF CMOFLOUGING THEM. You know...against PREDATORS. I don't think day-glo orange works as well....

Secondly:

I, too hope that the hunters do not shoot at the first orange thing they see. I hope this reward thing hasn't caused anyone to go out looking for orange to shoot at.

Oh yeah....and anyone in this thread or otherwise THINKING that it would be a GOOD THING for these hunters to SHOOT EACH OTHER.... You are a SICK MOTHERFVCKER, and you need some serious counseling. It is not funny or joyous or good in ANY WAY when ANY human being is killed. Think how it will impact families. If any hunters DO get killed in the coming weeks as a result of this, I want you to see THEIR BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS. Not because you killed them, or had anything to do with this situation, but because you HOPED it would happen. Sick fvcks.

Personally, I don't see the harm in killing deer. They're overpopulated enough in Michigan that they are spreading bovine TB. This doesn't only affect the deer herd, predators catch and sprad it, and cattle herds have been getting it too. I wonder if PETA thinks its better for millions of animals to die a languishing TB death than for the deer herd to be controlled with hunting. (or maybe they want to go vaccinate them.)

I don't support killing anything for the sake of killing. We have a natural place in the food chain, and if we don't fill it, someone, or something else will. Diseases, and other predators are surely not as humane killers as are we.

I also believe that the people here that want to see hunters killing each other are disturbed. Can't you disagree without wishing death on others? Do you really want the people with the guns to think you want them dead? That doesn't seem too smart to me.

Fine. Guilty as charged. But where I am there is certainly no deer overpopulation, and they are hunted nonetheless. My family and I have also been actively feeding the deer near our cottage. We have built a feeding platform above the snowline complete with a small roof to prevent the feed from being snow covered. Almost nightly, we watch as families of deer come to the best deer feeder in the area to munch on corn and take in a few laps of saltlick. Most of their food has been crusted over for weeks now.

What strikes me most about the view is the gentle nature of the deer, and that they travel in family groups. How anyone with a conscience can kill one of these creatures in unfathomable to me.

To me, to say that hunting them controls population would be akin to proposing open season on New Yorkers because there are no good apartments left. Of course, I know that with fewer natural predators, thinning the herd is required in some areas. Though you'll never catch me doing it, I would hope that such efforts would be carried out with precision and compassion.

In what will be a useless attempt to head-off my detractors: Yes, I eat meat. No, it's not that much different. No, they've never destroyed my shrubs. Yes, they'd be welcome to if they so desired.

Perhaps I should have considered my words more carefully on the "dead hunters" line. That said, if confronted with the hypothetical situation of a hunter taking aim at a deer, and a gun in my own hand, I suppose I would fire a warning shot before taking aim on the hunter.

Regards,
Craig
