Gotta love unsecured wireless...

I have no idea where I am. Somewhere in the DC area I think. All I know is I got in a van with my g/f & her family, drove for ~5 hours & had dinner at a stranger's house.

I don't know where I am but I can post on AT, play poker, stream yahoo music, and generally keep myself entertained at broadband speeds all night so I can sleep on the way back tomorrow.

Last week I was playing poker from the g/f's car in Amish country (Intercourse, PA) while the g/f shopped all the amish stores.

Here's a :beer: to Linksys & Netgear for making wireless possible for every idiot with $50 to spend.

I can access the neighbor's wireless from here too, I'm staying at my sis' house. I need to secure her wireless before I leave too..the cable company set it up for her and apparently they don't care about security at all.

lol, war driving for the win. I like to print off messages to people telling them to change their security settings if they have a printer shared. or if their my documents or desktop is shared, put a text document in there...

Nah, no wine. I know who's place I'm at (aunt/uncle of the g/f's, on her dad's side).

I don't know their last name, I don't know what city I'm in. I'm not even 100% sure what state I'm in.

But I have internet, life is good.

I don't know what your surfing habits are like, but it occurs to me that having an unsecured access point is probably a really good way to sniff passwords. Just something to think about when you're using some random guy's internet access.

indeed. It's amazing how you can just go to a city, turn on a laptop and bam! - unsecured wireless access points come at ya left right and centre. Stupid people

It's depressing really, I have a netgear and I happen to know the instructions are very clearly set out for setting up encryption. Everybodies goes... woohoo I can detect our network! And thinks that's the end of it. Give this a go, next time you are on a Netgear one, go to 192.168.0.1 username: admin, Password: password and set up your own encryption.
