GPS tracking for cars

Example: I want to put a GPS type unit that is hidden in my daughter's car so I can track where her (well, MY) car is.

Does anyone know of any devices that can do this?

Are you looking for real time tracking or just something you can download after the fact?

you could use a small gps like the geko 201 to keep track of where the car has been and download it later.

You can buy a TrackStick for like $200. Only thing is it doesn't provide real-time monitoring. You have to physically retrieve the USB key and download the data to find out where the vehicle was, when, for how long, et al.

Retrieving it isn't a problem seeing as I have a key to the car.

Especially since the battery would need charging again... I really don't see why real-time is all that important... or worth it.

The TrackStick looks perfect. Except it only lasts one day for the things I'll need. I really need something that lasts about a week. The search continues.

I have one in my car - it's part of a much larger CarPC setup, but basically, it's a serial GPS unit plugged into normal x86 PC running Windows XP Embedded - and my app (it's custom) records the GPS position, along with a BILLION other things, including stuff pulled from OBDII in a text based logfile on a 2gb memory stick. Logfile gets full, it archives it to harddrive, and starts a new one on the flash drive

Car turns on, PC turns on. That simple. (not as simple as it sounds, actually - it involves all kinds of relays and inverters and insanity to do it right).

I'm yet to write anything that parses the GPS data, but I suspect it would be VERY easy to import into Google Maps.
