GPU at 99% When Idle

I have a ATI 5870 video card on a EVGA x58 FTW mb with a Intel Extreme 980x processor 12gb balistic memory and Revo SSD drive with Windows 7 plus a couple ssd arrays and velociraptor array. For whatever reason especially after locking my pc and coming back the GPU spikes to 99% and stays there is there any program or utility to track this down? I dont play games on this machine but I do video editing and I can tell something is using the GPU because screen refreshes really crawl. I have updated the drivers to every new release including the latest released on 5/9/11. There is nothing in the task manager using up processor time so dont get what is going on. Any ideas on what to try to troubleshoot this are welcome. The odd thing is even though the utilization goes up the temp never goes above 49 c.

I saw a similar issue with my 5870. I tracked it down to flash running with hardware acceleration. Do you happen to have any browsers (mine was specifically linked to Firefox and Flash) open?

Yeah I always have about 8-12 tabs open, was using firefox but it now keeps crashing starting yesterday and I havent figured it out yet. I will check on that though thanks. Searching Google there are so many other people that have this issue but seem to have a 1000 different reasons.

Are you running Firefox beta? They just had an update yesterday. Maybe it's a bug with the latest beta?

Running the latest full release but I did turn off hardware acceleration in Flash and so far it hasnt happened yet but it usually happens at some point during the day so shouldnt take too long to see if that works or not.
