Not sure what you expected. I just paid $549 + $10 ship + tax, over $600 shipped for an XFX Speedster 210 RX 6600 non-XT model from Newegg here in the USA. So you're in the ball-park. Given limited availability and deals for GPUs these days, may want to reconsider your potential return.

Well, the RX 6600 can manage 1440P / 60 in many titles at reasonable detail settings. I don't think that the 970 is much of a 1440P card these days.

that is what i am thinking and the card is now going for like 100$ more than i paid. the most expensive card i ever bought it just messes with me. it has gotten plenty worse reviews that the nvidia 3060. i dunno but thanks also man
apparently i would get more bang for the buck with a last generation card like the 2060

It's fairly close in performance to an RTX 3060 card, in "rasterization" (RTX OFF). It can do RT, just not that well, the 30-series cards still perform better with RT enabled (than the AMD RX 6000-series). Most people probably wouldn't consider the experience enjoyable with RT ON (RTX ON) on a 3060 though, anyways. The lowest-end RTX cards weren't really meant for that, other than as a check-box feature.

I
Used to be... most retailers have caught on, and buying a pre-built just to get a GPU is no longer a slam-dunk value play.

LTT did a video about that a week or two ago.
Only when on sale. I could buy a hp omen 30L 5800X 32gb ram 1tb nvme with a RTX 3080 for 15000 DKK (~$2300) on sale, the price for a RTX 3080 that is actually possible to buy is around 11000 DKK ($1700). Sure the parts in the HP are not super, but I was tempted since I do need a total upgrade.

The only way to get a video card at a decent price, is if you can find a Pre-built computer on sale with the video card you want. The cost of the whole computer is often close to the price of the video card by itself.
the idea has crossed my mind. maybe i can make a deal with my sister for the remaining parts with my older gpu.

as for a laptop hmm. i have a decent desktop setup. just bought 32 gig 3600 mhz ram and really would prefer a dedicated card. thanks tho

Considering the GPU prices here, I wouldn't say that's a bad deal when you need a total update. Combining the 3080 and 5800X retail prices, you more-or-less get the rest of the PC for ~2000,- DKK, which isn't half bad when you include the Windows licence.

Besides, you can always supplement with parts of your own choice down the line, if you don't mind the warranty loss.

Yeah, I have a dedicated sound card so I would need to buy a ATX board and case. But I really don't have the time to use my computer atm, usually 2-3 hours/week so I just lower my graphics settings and dream about upgrading and having more time.

So I just picked up a 3070 for $729. These perform about the same as 2080tis. In 2020 that was a $1300 card, so I think some prices right now aren't too bad even comparing to a year or two ago.
If you want to feel better about your purchase just go check ebay prices for the 3070.

I've been wanting a 3060ti or 3070 for months. Considering a 3070 reference goes for $500 and with everything going on $729 isn't a horrible deal.

I bought a 6600 XT at 775CAD last month. I also play on 1440p and the card does really good at that resolution.

I understand the feeling though, having to resort buying a low-end GPU at the price of a mid-high end is quite depressing, but the 6600 XT is a surprising card!

I was happy to finally get a 3070 for $900 (NewEgg raffle) a few months back, after like 8 months of on and off hunting. $729 given the current market was an incredible deal given the market.

The current generation cheaper "mid-range" cards like the 3070, even a year later, only stay in stock at on-line stores at $1100+, which I guess is an improvement from 6-12 months ago where they weren't in stock anywhere at any price (other than anonymous e-bay scalpers at even higher prices, or being lucky after standing in line overnight at a microcenter.)

I'm frustrated as well. I have had every 80Ti card from EVGA since the 780Ti, 980Ti,1080Ti, 2080Ti and have been on the EVGA notify list for a 3080TI since OCT 2020 and still can't find one without paying scalper prices. I thought I was playing it smart by selling my 2080Ti just before the 3080Ti was to come out, it was not a smart move.

Yeah. I have given up this generation again. I gave up last generation since the bulk of the real improvement was for ray tracing. And I wasn't really impressed with the performance boost from 9XX to 10XX series, so the last 3 generations of cards I have simply been in limbo waiting.... I'm still stuck on a 670, but my monitors are also only 1920x1200.

After reading a ton about the 6600 and considering how long i was going to depend on this card, I decided to return it and spend another 200$ on a 3060 ti. Got it for 860 (5500 dkr) at Geekd. Appreciate all the help
Heres the link if someone is interested

Thanks again

Haha, im so far from the market that it's ridiculous. I'm not going to spend more than 300usd and my expectations is that I at least get 3070 performance for that.

I understand I'll have to wait a couple of years, but then my expectations might have moved with the enhancements done over the years. I have during the last year come to realize that I might have bought my last gaming card. As long as the price/performance looks like it does, I'd rather buy something else. Anything else.

I agree. But the market will eventually catch up. Selling products for 4 or 5 times what they cost a few years ago won't last. There is an opening for others to make money so the gap will be filled. It's just taking longer that we'd hoped. Looks like Intel is bringing their ARC discrete cards out at the perfect time. Even if they are the fastest on the block, as long as they are decent and readily available at good prices they will sell and that will drive down the other players.
