Question gpu frustration

for about a year i have been looking for a new gpu and as you know its impossible for a decent price. i am still stuck with my gtx 970 not doing to much 1st person shooter but i really would like to enjoy some gfx and i am looking forward to baldurs gate 3. i just bought an ati 6600. thought it was at xt model and paid premium about 650$. dont know what to do so i was hoping you guys you give me the heads up. thanks.

i expect ill be returning the card but judging by the price development i might just regret hmm??

Haha, im so far from the market that it's ridiculous. I'm not going to spend more than 300usd and my expectations is that I at least get 3070 performance for that.

I understand I'll have to wait a couple of years, but then my expectations might have moved with the enhancements done over the years. I have during the last year come to realize that I might have bought my last gaming card. As long as the price/performance looks like it does, I'd rather buy something else. Anything else.

Agreed. If the market doesn't return to sanity, I'll likely end up with an APU driven PC for indie titles and other casual gaming and then a stand alone VR headset of the next generation. Maybe even a console at some point. Definitely not spending stupid money on a GPU though. Fortunately for Nvidia and AMD, there are plenty of enthusiast gamers who would sell their own children to buy an RTX 4090 at $5000, so they will be fine.

I can recommend the 5700G or 5600G if on a budget. Those provide some beastly performance for a APU.

Also, consoles aren't really cheaper if you can find one in stock. Scalping galore over there too.

Historically, hardware has been a lot more expensive then it is now. I remember paying though the nose for RAM back in the nineties. I don't even think I want to run that through an inflation calculator for how much that's equivalent to today.

At least it was company money, otherwise I think I'd have had a heart attack...

Apparently there is a generation 4xxx nvidia about to launch and some more affordable radeon cards, but in my experience its only gotten worse since late 2020. Good luck anyway guys
