GPU or CPU Heat Issue?

This only happens when I play games (ME1, L4D2, and Starcraft 2 Beta).

Every 5 minutes or so, my screen will freeze, turn black for 5-10 seconds, then returns back to normal
Started happening right when that heat wave hit the east coast, so I assume this is a heat issue. Also, it went away mostly when I opened my case up for a few days

Started monitoring the Temps using CPUID, getting around 55-60 on the CPU and 65-70 on the GPU.

Any idea which is overheating?

AMD II X3 440, HD5770

Thanks in advance

I'm kind of having the same problems. But it's definitely not a CPU problem. My CPU has been operating mid 70s for the most part. 65-70 on the GPU is fine as well. It's actually pretty normal for stock GPUs to go up to 80 C.

Are your temps while it is gaming or just idle at the desktop/surfing? If those are while gaming they are fine. Have you tried running memtest?

Few other quick questions that popped into my head.
What power supply are you running for your system?
Are you overclocking at all? If so, try setting it to standard and see if it still happens.

Sounds like your GPU. A hot CPU doesn't come back from a freeze without a reboot...

Update drivers and make sure your GPU is getting enough power. 500W doesn't seem near big enough for that card... IIRC, that card is drawing 300W under load.

I agree with this, but first:

I had a very similar issue with my computer, only it happened at random intervals whenever the computer came back from hibernate, turned out it the GPU drivers would stop responding (they didn't like hibernate) then restart themselves (most of the time). Obviously your issue has nothing to do with hibernate, but I'd double-check the drivers before buying some new hardware or underclocking/whatever to reduce heat. Not saying its the same issue, but the symptoms are very similar.
