GPU prices going up?

Is it just me or are GPU prices going through the roof? When the 760's were released they were at $240-250, some with little rebates. Good luck finding anything under $260 now. 7850 1gb were going for $150-160 a couple weeks back with huge game bundles and $20. rebates on several cards. 670's have barely budged with a couple little rebates to sweeten the pot but no substantial price decreases. Even 7950's are still too high with the relase of the 760's. /rant off/ What gives?

No, I wouldn't say they're going through the roof. What you're probably sensing is that AMD's aggressive bundle expired, which slowed down AMD sales a bit, and took the edge off for Nvidia. It's also the usual summer lull - this is not a top sales season for video card makers. Expect a bit more movement in October when AMD releases its new cards.

And no, the 760 was never $240. It hasn't for a second dropped below its $250 MSRP, nor should it given how competitive that price was. But there were 670s at $280 a few weeks ago, which was super-hot.

And there are still several 7850 1GB models at Newegg for $130AR. Just have to look around, although this GTX 650 Ti Boost 1GB at $110AR is a much better deal...

The GTX760 is probably performing very well in the market. as inventory goes down the prices come up.

The 770 and 7950 are probably meeting their expectations and this is why the prices arent moving much.

Perhaps back to school is treating them well this year. It doesnt matter because it will eventually all balance out. Any card or product on the market has an estimated sales amount. The price + the estimated quantity give the company a forecast of earnings. If your meeting those sales then everything is working out as planned and things continue on until its reevaluated.

If the the sales are lower than they expected then the most natural thing to do is reduce the price to try to recoup some lost ground. This should result in a boost of sales to soften the blow. If they do nothing the loss would be much much higher than lowering the price to sale move quantities.

On the other side, if your product is selling better than expected then inventories can start to become low. A price increase is then the common practice and earning become better than expected.

it's a great deal. The GTX 760 4GB is the GPU I've been waiting for. I wasn't impressed with the GTX 660 and, of course, the GTX 560 was just a higher clocked GTX 460 1GB.

Do you think 2 GTX 760 4GB SLI is overkill at my native resolution of 1680x1050?

it's a great deal. The GTX 760 4GB is the GPU I've been waiting for. I wasn't impressed with the GTX 660 and, of course, the GTX 560 was just a higher clocked GTX 460 1GB.

I would do it in a minute myself as a single gtx670 can drop below 60fps sometimes at even as low as a resolution as 1440x900 in BF3 with ultra and 4x msaa enabled.

Must love enabling lots of eye candy to even consider doing such a upgrade for such a resolution.

It's all demand. I remember when the 8800GT was getting over MSRP for the first couple months.

I ordered my 4GB EVGA GTX 760 from Newegg on the very early in the morning on the 22nd (close to midnight) and it was $290 + $5.xx shipping. It's now out of stock... and up to $305.xx shipped.

pcpartspicker.com shows that it was $285.xx shipped there at some point. I've been waiting for it to drop back to that for the past couple weeks but it stayed at $290. I'm glad I gave up and ordered anyway when I did.

For months upon months it was a Hot Deal when it went on sale for $200, and smoking at $190. 7850's too have come down -- 2GB had been down at $150, then up to $165, now back to $150. And I don't remember ever seeing a 1GB below $135 before. They're within $5 of a 7790 now.
7770's can still be had for their bottom price of $80.

I dunno but isn't that the case with most Hot Deals? OP probably is waiting for one to jump on but is lamenting that prices are rising while he waits. Back when the same thing was happening after the 8800GT launch I jumped as soon as Best Buy had their regular "XX% off all BFG products" sale. That finally brought the price back down a little below MSRP but it was still hard to find in stock even before then thanks to the demand (same that justified the higher price). IIRC, I may have even bought it before then fully intending to do the 110% price guarantee when the sale inevitably returned (it was reoccurring ~ monthly). That's why I went ahead and purchased the 4GB EVGA GTX 760 at Newegg despite it costing slightly more than ordering from EVGA directly (small shipping difference): The Iron Egg Guarantee. Now they are charging $10 more than EVGA.

Actually, I did read the thread. It died the same day it was posted (July 5th), and it's not clear that anyone actually purchased it at that price. That was almost certainly a price mistake.

If the OP is interested in what GPUs actually cost right now, a dead deal on a single GTX760 that was available for a day is really not that relevant.

The OP is talking about trends in pricing, not glitches.

it lasted almost 7 hours from when the deal was posted. Quite a bit longer than your "hasn't for a second" claim

at 1680x1050 - you will be hard press to max out 2gb. even in sli.

at 60hz - you be hard press to need more than single 760.

for 1680x1050 @ 60hz. a single 760 2gb is all you need.

as for overkill. this is anandtech. so go for it.

I think the Sapphire 7950 model 3L card recently went on sale for $249 after rebate, with 4 games, on Newegg. So the price drops should be coming eventually.

Don't forget that Q2 ended three weeks ago.

Companies like to shift inventory at the end of quarters and you often get better deals; meaning that the deals go away at the start of the new quarter.

Yes. For the 760 my point is that the introduction saw a few deals to be had for a couple weeks. They may have been short lived but they did exist.

Agreed that we can get great cards for low $$$. The 760 is a great case in point. This is the first card in a couple years that I've recognized as top notch offering with a great starting price. In reviewing it, I typically benchmark its performance per $$ against some other cards. That is when i noticed, that during the last two weeks, the 760 has increased in price.

Other card prices have increased as well. It is stealthy in the case of reduced bundles, fewer discount codes, higher shipping costs, and fewer rebates. It adds up, to me anyways, as a perceptible increase in cost.
