Here's a little comparison of graphics card manufacturers and their warranties. The list is primarily compiled with the HD 79xx series in mind, but EVGA is added too for comparison.

Please comment if you find a mistake, or if you have any ideas/suggestions/improvements that could be added.

Here is a couple you can add if you want,

Galaxy has a 3 year warranty, non-transferable. Have to register within 14 days

Zotac has lifetime warranty for their enthusiast cards(590, 580, 570, 560, 480, 470, 465, 460 AMP!, & H-version products: 210, 220, 240, 250, 460, 450) and 3 year for their mainstream and value cards (550, 520, 460, 450, 440, 430, 250, 240, 210, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, series). Warranty is non-transferable.

Thanks, I added what I found from their sites, Galaxy is 2 year standard, 3 year with registration. Zotac was 2 year, lifetime with registration. That's a good point that the warranty may vary by models, these are mid to high end cards which I have checked.

Good idea for a thread! Just want to clarify on the EVGA warranty as we have various lengths:

RX or recertified units have a 90 day warranty.
TR have a 2 year warranty.
KR have a 3 year warranty.
AR have a limited lifetime warranty - If registered within 30 days of purchase.
We do not void a warranty if you overclock the card, that's why we offer precision and ELEET.
You are also welcome to use an aftermarket fan or waterblock as long as you return it to stock condition before sending it in for RMA.

This might be too much to ask, but can you add whether the manufacturers support aftermarket coolers? I know XFX will allow it if you notify them beforehand.

MSI and XFX states that any modification what so ever will void the warranty, but when you contact the support they'll tell you that just put the stock heatsink back and you'll be ok.

This would also be good to confirm. If anyone can find this information about the other brands I'll add it to the list.

[ 2/20/2012 8:37:05 PM] I have no issue trying out a new heatsink and fan as long as it doesn`t void my warranty. Is there any chance you can give me a different type of fan that would be a bit quieter than this one? This thing is loud and has no automatic fan setting at all. Full blast 24/7

I like the idea of being able to overclock the card without voiding your warranty, but I don't see any good cooling solutions from MSI. I see that Evga covers O/C'ing also, but I want a 7970 and Evga doesn't make AMD cards.

I really like the Gigabyte 3 fan cooler 7970 card, but am trying to decide if I can wait 3 years until it is out of warranty to O/C it. I probably won't need the extra boost in performance for the next 3 years, but who knows....

That Black Edition XFX Double D looks nice also. Better then stock cooling, a decent overclock, and a lifetime warranty. But, I've read bad things about XFX's quality / quality control.

Lastly, I did like the idea behind the Asus DC cooler and the fact that the warranty was transferable. But recent reports of the coolers falling off and Asus not owning up to it, make that seem like a poor choice.

Any suggestions?

BTW: I was looking to buy a 2GB 7870, but since my budget just went up by $300, so now I'm really looking at a 7970.

Yeah it's a familiar debate... Hopefully the length of time it's taken to release better coolers will mean they are actually quality GPUs and not like the recent troubles with some.

For me resale is critical as I will dump it when something suitable comes along. As of today the only 2 options for me are MSI/ASUS reference models. :S

The Gigabyte windforce would be nice, too bad gigabyte doesn't have a more lenient warranty policy.

EVGA has just won my support. They are now offering the best warranty in my opinion. Now if they would just sell AMD cards too.
