970 is questionable. 780/Ti for a 290 Tri-X without a doubt!

I think it's better to sell the 970 and pick up a $240 R9 290 and you might actually walk out with some $.

I guess these are all 1ghz+ models so they are equivalent to the 290x stock performance. The Tri-X is probably the only fair deal if you were to trade in. They do cover shipping so that can account for ~$15. Plus many don't want to have to deal with mail in rebates.

You can almost assuredly do better by selling any hardware yourself and buying when you find the best deal. This is just trying to take advantage of those all hot and bothered at NV whether they hurt themselves in the process or not.

Since Xbox One uses GCN similar or same as R2XX series then 290X will benefit greatly from DirectX 12 and more than nVidia's GPU's.

I guess it depends on which 970 model you have. Gigabyte G1 or MSI Gaming, heck no.

That PNY with the noisy blower that I see used for under $300, maybe. I agree, they should have went with the 290x.

If your GTX 970 is DOA, or does not pass benchmark stress tests, it will be rejected and sent back immediately.
Only retail-packed GTX 970 arriving in like-new condition are acceptable, with all retail accessories. Non-retail packed GPUs, and GPUs damaged due to poor shipping quality will be rejected and sent back immediately.

I could wonder if there aren't "two store fronts." What else are they going to do with 970's with good benchies in retail box and like-new condition?

I'm just trying to imagine the detailed workings of their scheme . . . ah . . strategy . . .
