Sounds like a decent machine for somone that is going to do just mostly web surfing and e-mail. Like my sister.
Upgrae the mem and it should be good to go.

I wonder if that is USB 1.0

It also appears to use sdram. Agreed its good for basic web surfing if your older computer breaks down. But there's very little room for upgrade.

Don't always believe the specs. This system could be a little more then your web browser PC... no FPS beast of course. Linspire 4.5 is not that bad either but many are too used to Windows to make a switch, that wouldn't stop me from giving it a try though. Something is definitley weird with those specs. Either the chipset info is wrong or the mbd manufacturer crippled the hell out of this thing. But if you were happy thinking it had USB 1.0 and SDRAM, I feel that it's very likely that you may be in for a little surpise. The memory does state it had 128MB of DDR ram so that's 2 out of 3 in favor that it does but the specs are missing a LOT of detail. I think someone hand typed the specs and botched it... my guess. Good find btw!

SiS 741GX

3 banks of DDR333/266 (uhh 3?) 3GB max
8X AGP slot
Ultra-AGPII Mirage Onboard Video (up to 64MB shared)
8 USB 2.0 ports
Onboard NIC

The goal of Linspire's CEO, Michael Robertson, is to allow people to buy functional budget PCs. Linspire is a Linux distro, but it was designed in a way to be very user-friendly and comfortable for Windoze users. I put Linspire on my parent's Dell a few months back and they like it better than windows. (Which is great for me b/c I used to have to spend at least an hour on their pc removing spyware and viruses before I could even check my email...)

I've bought four of these and converted to XP for three of them.
This can be way more than a web surfer. It has 333 FSB and I think it can be upgraded to 2800+ or 3000+ CPU. It ships with a 128 MB PC2700 DIMM. It has USB 2.0 when loaded with XPSP1 or 2. It has onboard graphics for the frugal minded but it does have an 8X AGP slot if you want to upgrade the video card. It uses this ECS motherboard here.

Good deal for 179.00. I would rather have this than the 2200+ Sempron that they bundle with this board on occasion here. The 2200+ is 333 FSB but it's only 1530 MHz or so. This is an Athlon XP.

the memory is DDR not SDRAM with one available slot on top of the 128 that come with the system itself

I also asked about the price and the girl said "I guess you got a good deal'.

Has anyone received theirs?

I ordered mine on Jan 26 and it is still on backorder.

I have written them 3 times and called them twice.

They always say "We are supposed to get some in next week" every week I call or write.

Feedback on the system?
