Grado Labs SR60 or SR80 headphones?

Anyone have these headphones? How are they? They have that cheapy feel to them but the sound is awesome. Anyone have a recommendation?

i have the SR-80s worth the money over the 60s, they sound amazing, the best headphones in their price class

and IMO they dont feel cheap

i'm pretty happy with them....only thing is they can get uncomfortable after a while

they don't seem cheap to me.

i'd probably recommend getting the 80s over the 60s

yes some people think they are unconfortable

you can get different pads from Grado that people feel are more comfortable, personally i have no issues with them

and honestly if you can afford it get the SR-125s

They are so uncomfortable, I personally can't stand them.

However, the SR-80 sounds AMAZING for the price.

I've heard that the sr80s sound even better when paired with a decent amp. Most all headphones sound better with an amp. Me persoannly, I'd go with the Senns 580, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the sr80 as they have gotten very good reviews.

you dont need an amp, they run off my stereo and sound card just fine, you might have issues with a CD player or mp3 player, I dont think grado says you need an amp for anything less then the SR-225s, and in reality you prob only need one for the RS-1s and RS-2s

personally I would go with the Senn 580 also.

You really need an amp with the Senn 580 (not the SR-80, go with SR-80 not 60), if you are on a tight budget, I would try to find a cmoy amp clone on ebay.

I just ordered a Seenheiser HD-497 for $27 from amazon (used $30 coupon for applying amazon cc). My research suggests it's a good choice in under $100 class.

I love my sr60s. People say you need an amp to really get the most out of the sr80s. I listen to music on my ipod, so I don't want to carry an external amp around.

The SR-60/80 doesn't need an amp.

Of course it will help, but you really don't need it.

The cmoy type amp = 60+ (?) hr of playing on 1 AAA. It is the size of a small candy tin box.

I have the SR-60s. I listened to both and felt for my preferences, the SR-60s were better sounding. However, you can't go wrong by getting either pair - but, I'd recommend that you listen to both if you have a chance to.

I dont think there are any suitable op amps that will run in the cmoy circuit on 1.5V you pretty much need a 9V to
have decent quality sound.

Have the 80s too. They're awesome for games on the PC. Never compared vs. the 60s, but I imagine they are worth the price.

BTW, Grado stands by their product. The plug for my set got messed-up internally, so they let me send the set to them for a free repair (a couple of years after buying them, no less).

yea their service is great, my roomate has teh 80s as well, when he was moveing into his dorm last year the bag ripped and they fell out in the rain and got messed up, he sent them back and they fixed them for free

i have the 60s . . . great cans for $60.

Although they lack the (absolute fullness of) rich-defined Bass of the 80's; you can tell NO difference listening to MP3s on a portable.

OTOH, you can tell the difference with CDs and vinyl . . . depends if you are "audiophile enough".

That's the beauty of their design.

The SR60 comes with the comfy pads, while the SR80 comes with the bowl pads.

In terms of comfort, comfy > bowl, but Grado < * in comfort generally.

Try to get a used pair of flat pads or vwap modded senn pads for the SR80 from head-fi. It'll improve the overall sound and comfort

I have the SR60's. Had them for about 3 years. Great headphones. Not the most comfortable you will ever find, but the sound is great and I listen to them for hours on end at times...

I can't say enough about my SR-80's. I previously owned a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 Pros, and upon hearing my friend's SR-60's I promptly sold them and bought a pair of SR-80's (you know, oneupmanship. It's what drives the economy ). I find mine to be quite comfortable unless I've been wearing them for several hours, which is probably a good sign that I should take them off. If you're lucky enough to have a place near your house that sells Grados, take a trip and test all the different ones out. I think the choice will be pretty clear.

I love my SR-60's. I use them with my cd-player and computer and they sound awesome. Haven't really compared them to the SR-80's but I can't really imagine the sound is that much different. One thing though, they bleed alot of sound (and I mean alot) so they aren't exactly the most "polite" headphones to use when near people.

May I also suggest Sony V6. I have both V6 and SR80, each has its own merits, but the SR80 was so uncomfortable that I had to sell it.

I think you need an amp to get the best sound out of any headphones. The minijack amps on most CD players/soundcards are pretty low grade. Even a low-end headphone amp would improve the sound immensely from my experience
