Grado SR60 Headphone question

EVERYBODY I've talked to has said that these are some of the best headphones you can get for your $70. I was just wondering if any of you had them and could tell me if it 'blocks out' surrounding noise relatively well.

I had some nice Aiwa headphones but they broke (2 separate pairs, both for no reason) so needless to say I am not going to be buying Aiwa any time soon. I had to get some cheap replacements while I'm at school but even though these cover my ears entirely, they still leak tons more sound than my Aiwas. I can hear people talking perfectly clearly and I'm hoping to remedy this with my next purchase for a true headphone experience.

Do the SR60s mute surrounding sound relatively well and do you like them as much as everybody else claims?

Thanks a lot guys.

I've had mine for over a year and love them SO MUCH. They do ok at blocking out outside noise. I guess it really depends on the sound level of what your listening to. On the other hand people around you can hear what you hear fairly well since they aren't closed .

Yea, that's another concern but not as much as them blocking out sound going in. Is the leaked sound going out really discernable or is it just kind of slight noise coming from the phones?

I don't want to annoy the hell out of my roommate if I crank them up too much

I have open air Sennheiser headphones. I can't take them to the library, because they'll disturb others. It also depends on how loud you listen to your music.

hmmm I think it does carry out pretty well, mostly the higher stuff. Like when I was watching simpsons my roomate could tell but music for the most part is pretty muffled to the other person.

Hmm, that doesn't sound too bad then. I just don't want him to get annoyed thinking that I'm making him listen to my music when I'm actually just trying to be cool about it and listen to my headphones instead of through my speakers I think I'm going to spring for these if nobody else has any complaints about them. Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?

SR60s wont block out anything, and it's easy to hear what's in them

get HD280s if you need isolation
you won't hear a thing outside of them.

It really depends how loud you turn them up. Cheaper phones I've had are harsh to listen to at high volume, but not the SR60's. Even at moderate volume they leak enough that you can easilly hear them 10ft away although its very muffled(tune is discernable words really aren't). At 5ft you can tell what the person is listening to. At high volume the leakage rivals a very very very cheap set of computer speakers(at medium low volume). When I'm not wearing them I usually turn them up so I can tell if I recieve an IM.

As for muting surrounding sounds, they do that well. Again based on volume.

I like them, they really do sound better. I got mine for $55 from planetminidisc.com with a coupon last year.

Hey, I'm checking out some reviews on that and it seems really awesome too

I'm not extremely picky about the quality of sound (anything will be these $20 Koss phones) but I am concerned about sound leakage both in and out. The HD280 Pros seem like a good buy for that. Anybody have any comments on those?
