I found a job 3 months before I graduated. Rejected it. Found one I liked 1 month before graduation. Then quit that job for another 4 months after I started. 1st job pay was $48k, 2nd job 32k, job i'm at now $45-$55K (depends on my bonus). And people say the economy sucks? Job market sucks? I get at least 3 calls a month from headhunters (who knows how they get my info) offering me jobs.

most people here start looking for full time work around the fall term so i'm not sure what is still available so late in the yr

That's the thing. Just WTF do you do with a BSBA in mgmt? It can be pretty discouraging out there...

Not to thread crap, but the business school where I went wouldn't even allow you to just major in management, since you usually won't get a management position without experience. You might want to look into getting a second major. At my school I graduated with an MIS degree and only needed 6 more Finance classes to get my finance degree.

In reply to OP's question, I found a job as an IT auditor that starts this summer. I interviewed for the job back in November and most companies like to have their summer hiring done before Jan. 1st. You might wanna think about hitting the career fairs next fall if you can't find a job you like.

I'm actually a double major in mgmt & marketing. I *think* I have a pretty good work experience, here's a bit from my resume:

Town & Country Café 2002-Present
Operations/Employee Manager Haverhill, MA
? Accomplished 20% growth in revenue: from $180,000 to $215,000 in 2004. Sales were previously declining rapidly from former ownership.
? Directly responsible for company?s brand marketing campaign: from menu design creation to banner and poster advertisements.
? Developed a complete employee training program where none previously existed. Program now serves as a guide for new hires and future growth.
? Acted as Korean-speaking translator for owner, managing employee and supplier relationships.

Comcast Corp. (formerly AT&T Broadband) 2000-2002
Sales & Customer Service Professional Chelmsford, MA
? Provided speedy and thorough resolution to customer issues through extensive troubleshooting and skilled negotiations.
? Achieved one of the top customer retention rates in the department on a frequent basis.
? Completed 180 hours of formal sales and customer service training.
? Mastered the ACSR billing platform developed by CSG Systems.

Staples Inc. 1997-2000
Customer Service Representative Salem, NH
? Educated customers on electronics to help them make a proper and informed purchase.
? Gained valuable knowledge on customer-oriented business philosophy.
? Coordinated with the manager to train new hires for day-to-day operations.

INTERNSHIP
New England Cable News (NECN)
Marketing Intern
? Directly responsible for targeting potential leads for NECN?s own show, TV Diner.
? Acted as a communication link between the viewers and the production team by generating weekly reports on viewer consensus.
? Planned, organized, and presented the viewer segmentation directly to the company?s director of PR.
? Performed a SWOT analysis of the show, mainly identifying key strengths to truly differentiate the show from its major competition, Phantom Gourmet

I *just* started applying to jobs about two weeks ago. I guess I gotta give it some time. No phone calls or anything so far. I've been applying to real manager positions.. maybe I'm aiming too high? Sometimes I get this super cold feet and get very anxious as the graduation date is getting closer and closer.... I think I'll feel better about myself if I actually started to get phone calls at least....

Based on your sig, you're in accounting? Boo~ that's diff. because accounting is always in demand and your field of study is pretty concrete as opposed to somethign more vague& intangible such as my majors: mgmt/marketing... Congrats though!

You're more than welcome to give us some personal pointers as well.
A good way for a new grad to get their foot in the door is to work with staffing companies to get a contract position. Once you're there and prove yourself to be efficient, quick to learn, and good at your job, there's a good chance of being converted into a full time position.
From one with a job, though not in HR as HC's job is, I can second her advice. I used exactly that method to get the job I have now, and from speaking with others in my department and differeing departments it is very obvious that my company has sourced a large number of entry-level professional staff in that manner.

Listen to HC. She's got the experience and the intelligence to let her speak with authority here.

One major, major tip. Just don't send in your resume or post it on a company's website. Actually call the company and know which person to talk to. This shows several things. First, your extremely interested, since you took the time to research the company and who you would need to contact. Second, you are now in direct correspondence with the hiring manager, not just a secretary. Third, (and IMHO) the most important, it shows you have balls and aren't afraid to pick up the phone and make a call.

Been looking for nearly four months at this point. No luck so far; graduated in December with a BS in CS. Could go back and have two more degrees in a year or so, in IS and environmental science / biology.

1. looking through the newspaper, through websites (careerbuilder, monster, etc., along with specific company and school website). Also have friends keeping their eyes open for me in a few places. Going to start working with a job-placement place next month. Sending applications to anything that it looks like I would be qualified for.

2. Programmer, helpdesk, similar computer-related things. Even applied for a couple standard office positions at a local college, just to try and get my foot in the door.

3. No job yet. No calls back, nothing. Might be going back to my previous retail position if something doesn't come up soon. Going to start on my A+ cert probably, too.

Actually the easiest way to get a job is visit VC sites and look at the companies that have or just received funding. Go into these companies...as in just show up and tell them you'd be perfect for a startup atmosphere because 1. you have the skills they're looking for 2. you're not scared to work long hours and love the startup atmosphere 3. you know something about their technology (read lots of online articles and anything you can about hte industry and their technology before walking in). The other nice thing about this is startups are usually hiring but most people don't know about them because they don't post on monster, they don't post on college job sites, and they aren't big companies most people apply to.

Not only will you have a good job in a company going places but you'll learn a lot and have a lot of room for advancement.

I am graduating in two weeks and will be flying to Japan for two years on June 30th. I've already got a place to live set up through family connections outside of Tokyo, but no job as of yet...

Um, is there something we don't know? You expect to get a job in a country where you probably do not even speak the language?

As for me, I am sticking iwth a liberal arts degree. That screams school teacher. They are always looking so you can easily find a teacher job in the public school system.

See, this is similar to what my mom and dad keep telling me to do; to me it doesn't make a whole lot of sense: Just print out a whole boatload of resumes, and spend the day dropping them off at different companies - regardless of if they're hiring or not.

I graduated this past December. I immediately found a temp to hire position through Monster.com. I have now worked that position and have found a better job through a University web site and this is where I am at right now. I'm in the Veternary/Biology field so I know it's deferent for CS and tech jobs. I find that University sites have alot of job openings that are geared towards research and this is what I'm mainly interested in. Also once you fill out an application and submit a resume it is REALLY easy to apply to multiple jobs simply changing the cover letter each time.

what are VC sites?

Venture Capital firms. They finance new start-up companies or companies in the midst of a big growth.

two months later and I'm still in basically the same boat. Things are a bit better though - at least I'm getting called for some interviews now. Even a couple of second interviews The first one I went to didn't pan out - got a letter a few days later that said they were continuing their search. Went to another one just yesterday, so I'm still waiting to hear from them. I know one of the project managers personally this time (family friend), so maybe that will give me a bit of an edge. who knows? A couple of recruiters have also found my resume on monster.com and sent me some e-mails; I'll probably be calling them tommorow.
