You have a choice:
a) sit through a boring 3 hour ordeal and pay a few bucks and have a story with pictures that will last you a lifetime, or
b) save your afternoon and money and possibly regret going for the rest of your life.
It isn't supposed to be fun. It is a traditional closure to a remarkable period of your life. If you are the type of person who doesn't look back and missed opportunities don't bother you - then don't go, don't have a last time to say goodbye to friends, don't have the photos and the memory of walking down that isle. If not then go.

If you do go, buy the gown if you can. It isn't more expensive, you avoid having to take it back, and it is a great costume for Holloween / toy for your future kids.

Wow, you know your life is pathetic if you won't even go to a celebration of one of your lifes most important occasions.

I went, but it was mostly for the picture ops, and because I graduated with a big group of friends. All in all, if its a big school, the cerimony isn't all that interesting...you do it for friends and family.

I now hate graduations. At my graduation which was outdoors we got nailed with a flash thunderstorm. They KEPT Calling the names for graduates to get their diplomas! And to top it off, when I received mine they had spelled my name wrong.

Ceremonies and ritual are for the weak minded who constantly need to have thier self worth and sense of belonging reinforced.

Don't go.

Don't go.

And those who don't go are the for the extremely weak who even feel left out within a large crowd.

just out of off topic curiosity, does that mean that you will not have a wedding but will just elope? what do you do at christmas time or hanukkah time or holiday time of your choice?

Don't go.

Tell that to your girlfriend/fiancee when talking about weddings and see how you fare.

At the end of the day, the number of "special occasions" in life is greatly eclipsed by the number of "ordinary days" you get.

I told my family that they would be disapointed if they went to my graduation because of its lameness. They insisted on coming and were disapointed...

I walked at all of my graduations, in large part to send a not so subtle message to my younger siblings

as for the tickets, can you get more from someone who is not attending?

As a fellow Boiler, you should go Minendo. Yeah, it may not be the coolest thing for you, but your parents care. Do it for them. It's a small amount of money for the cap and gown - no biggie. Just drop it off at the bookstore when you're finished taking pics. It's a small amount of your life that would otherwise be used to nef here. Go man, and GO BOILERS!!

And i would definitely go atleast for your family. Let one video tape it so all can see it later!

Totally agree with this. You've already spent 40000$ so what's an extra 20$. I'm sure it would disapoint your parents very much if you didn't go also: parents love this stuff. As for getting extra tickets, I could get more for my grad at the student union. Maybe something similar for your uni/college.

Agreed.

But if you REALLY want to make apoint, don't wear a gown, or just get a blue (or what ever color) raincoat and wear that. If you do that I promise you will be in EVERY persons roll of film that day

look at it this way: out of all the people who went to their graduations, how many do you think regreted it?

You just said you spent $40,000+ at this school and now you're throwing a fit over a measly $16.95?

That's like getting gangbanged every day in prison, then complaining when an inmate wants to cuddle afterwards.

Even though you technically have 5 tickets, they're not going to deny a relative entry if he or she is already there. You may need to pay extra to have that family member sit but like someone had said earlier, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I don't regret forking over the money to graduate with my classmates and friends.

Usually the ones that don't want to graduate with everyone are the lonely ones without friends -- from what I've observed. I vote for "Go".

geez.

GO!

so many of you seem so scared of big crowd situations. if its a long boring ceremony GO SIT WITH A FRIEND. i was sitting with a friend of mine at my grad (i only went to my dept grad, not letters and science) and we were joking around quietly and having a grand old time as the 2 hour ceremony flew on by.

the pictures alone are worth it. how many times are you going to get dressed up in that cap and gown? with all your friends around you? and your family around to witness it?

some people hate that pomp and fanfare. i personally don't know what i would have done without it - i'd have some empty photo albums.

i didnt go to my high school graduation this past june. i didnt want to pay for the gown to that seedy company and i didnt want to hear our valedictorian's speach. she didnt deserve it over my friend, IMO.

anyways it meant nothing for me, except for the fact that i would be able to continue my education elsewhere... i did go after the ceremony for pics and party at my friend's house .

actually i didnt go to my middle school graduation either - no regrets to either. i do plan on going to my college grad though.
