People using apostrophes to make nouns plural.
I find this is the most common with acronyms. People write things like "PC's" instead of just using "PCs".

With acronyms, I'm guilty of this. I just don't like the way "PCs" looks on the page. <shrug>

I don't think most Americans are used to the fact that vowels are (at least in my experience) not pronounced at the end of the words in French.

In French, there are so many exceptions that this is not even close to being a hard and fast rule. Maybe blame the French revolution, which is certainly why French has far more irregular verbs than, say, Spanish or Italian.

Should of.

So much this... I see this more and more every day, its spreading like a plague

And the interesting thing about it is they only do this when they use it with "should/could"
I dont think Ive ever heard anyone say "I of been to India" or something like that

It backs up my theory that no one is born smart or dumb, thats something you become by either thinking or not thinking... And we all know which one most people choose

Of course Im also an easy target because of my lack of periods/apostrophes, but its pretty obvious I do that on purpose just because I type faster that way, unlike those people who genuinely dont know what they are saying makes no sense (and english isnt even my native language, so hearing it from AMERICANS all the time makes it even worse)

Should of.

I think that is probably on top for me.... If people even stopped to think of how little sense that makes they would be embarrassed they put that in emails, etc. I work with a lady that always types that in her emails. So annoying.

Most grammar Nazi`s are ignorant. Hell they can`t even carry on a descent conversation. But you misspell a word and their ignorance comes out into the forefront.

If there's a list of the worst generalising statements made on Anandtech's forums, this should be on the list.

Anyway, their/there/they're, should of, and txtspk are probably the most annoying ones I can think of.

In the defense of the ignorant, "I've" doesn't sound anything like "I of;" we all know that it rhymes with "dive." "Should've" and the like are pronounced identically to "should of," so I can see where the mistake comes in. People hear "should've" and assume that it is two separate words, "should" and "of." It's wrong and they should learn the correct way to do it. But comparing it to "I of" doesn't make sense; there's no homophone there.

I agree. It makes people look illiterate.

This rule is one of the first thing I learned as a young French Canadian soldier learning to speak English years ago.

I don't blame you. It looks odd to me too.

In French, there are so many exceptions that this is not even close to being a hard and fast rule. Maybe blame the French revolution, which is certainly why French has far more irregular verbs than, say, Spanish or Italian.

What are some examples? I'm curious if you're considering how accented vowels are pronounced, which is definitely the case. There are some words that don't follow my "rule". An example would be "ici" (French for "here"), which is pronounced "ee-see".

I'm certainly not a French expert and it's literally been nearly 10 years since I've taken a course, but that's what I recall from it.

People who use "legos" as a plural for "lego".

That's just about the only one that pisses me off.

I see it used here and on other internet forums from time to time...I didn't get it at first either.
This confirms my suspicion, that grammar Nazis have no sense of humor, nor do they have much intelligence.

It's a play on word, instead of voila, you say it with a redneck accent, kinda like how a redneck wants to sound fancy but have no idea what he/she is saying so it comes out as "Whhaaala!"

Get it now?

If only you people would lighten up a bit, and see the humor and sarcasm that is all around you, you'll appreciate life a bit more. Or, enjoy it, rather.

Often time, people knowingly misspell shits, just to see your ilk in a fit of rage.

P.S. It is safe to assume that ALL my posts are laden with sarcastic potholes and triple innuendos and all that is wrong, or right.

pps I know there are some are's in there that I should of used instead of is. (look, I have just committed several grammatical) Get over it.
