Meh... The story was ok. The acting was terrible. The gross symbolism was too much to bear. (They laid him out like Jesus at the end... ugh) After seeing it I really didn't get all the 'best pic of the year' buzz that was circling around it.

Rather ironic that a bigtime flag-waving racist--which Eastwood clearly plays in the movie-- shows no loyalty to his own family.

EDIT: Oh yeah back to the point of the thread . . . my brother introduced me to this film and I loved it. I'm not an Eastwood fan for the most part but we had fun watching it.

His family wasn't loyal to him, only acknowledging him when it was convenient for them. That said, I can't STAND idiots who think that "family," or even friendship for that matter, is a reason to EVER treat someone as more important than someone else. If my brother pissed someone off and got in a fight, I wouldn't stick up for him unless he was justified in what he did. Period. If you endanger me with your problems, I'm not going to be OK with that just because you are family.

If a friend did something and deserved to go to jail for it, you'd better believe I'd let it happen... no lying or covering up for a mistake they made that was out of my control. If a so-called "friend" puts you in that situation, you need a new friend. If a family member does it, it's their problem. Seeing families defend dead-beat drug dealers and killers just because of some blood relation INFURIATES me... Casey Anthony's parents, for example.

You must not have brother(s) or don't have a good relationship with them. Hell, my brother and i didn't speak much until 3 years ago and even when we weren't as close . . . family is family. Yes, there is a line that can be crossed but as far as I'm concerned I'd at least get him the fuck out of there if he was in trouble. He could be slinging crack and I'd have his back if at all possible. Of course I'd try to remedy the situation beforehand . . .

Anyway, I guess I'm just glad you and I aren't siblings.

The actors sucked, the dialogue was worse, and Clints character seemed so contrived I wanted to shoot myself. It really was horrible. Oh man I wish I had a better relationship with my sons, but instead of changing that, I'll hand out with some recluse next door and his smart ass sister that went and got herself raped. I want my 1hr56min back...

This pretty much sums it up for me. Boring film, atrocious acting and nothing but a mashup of tired cliches. Next.

No shit. this douche is an anomaly to the animal kingdom. There's a term called "Relatedness," that refers to a critter's willingness to aid or even sacrifice its own life to help/defend another critter based on their genetic similarity.

Genetically, we are all 1/2 identical to our siblings, 1/4 to our parents, 1/16 to our grandparents, 1/32....etc. Studies have shown that most altruistic (rare: humans, some frogs, and a handful of rodents) and community-based critters exhibit this tendency on increasingly stronger levels based on their genetic relatedness. this shit has gone on for millions of years.

Before the ancestors of humans climbed down from trees. Hell, it's one of the primary reasons we're still around.

Yet, somehow, miraculously, we have found at ATOT, that one anomaly of the natural order that refuses this law! The internet badass!

Wow. only on the internet.

Finally watched this on PPV, great movie, acting a little rough in spots but great screenplay. The whole barber shop scene had me laughing my ass off!. Also liked the reaction of the family in the end when they see who got the Grand Torino..

I have a twin brother and am likely closer to him than anyone on this forum is to their brother. We're 28 and still share almost all of our possessions. That said, if he suddenly started dealing drugs or molesting children and the law came after him, I wouldn't stand in their way. It would be his choice, I would disagree with it, the law does too, and it would be HIS problem. If your brother were a child molester and YOU defended him, you'd be the douche; not I (even if you weren't an "enabler").

just watched it and LOVED it!

the boy acting was bad in some places (the one when he was held in that basement was pretty bad), but overall I think he did a pretty good job

I dont think there is anything wrong with Sue's acting... I think she played the part perfectly

Damn I wanted CE to go out guns blazing at the end!
