Gran Turismo 5 - Seasonal Challenge... Help?

Well, I'm not certain how active the GT community is here amongst Anandtech, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm attempting to do the Expert Driving Challenge (Online, Seasonal) with the Subaru and having no luck at all. I tried all the settings I could think of but got nowhere. Finally, I went online to find videos of others doing the same thing and was flabbergasted. Specifically, before the first turn of Laguna Seca, my Impreza is lucky to hit 120 and needs to decelerate to almost 40mph to handle the turn. In the videos, however, their Imprezas are all hitting nearly 200 before the turn and taking it at 60-70mph. Did Polyphony change something since that challenge was originally posted? The challenge only allows a single model of Impreza to compete and only up to a certain tuning level... how can there be that much disparity?

My only thought was that I spent a lot of my PP on weight reduction, perhaps the focus needs to be on engine tuning instead?

If this makes sense to anyone here, I'd appreciate the help immensely!

There are a ton of 'cheated builds' and glitches(like shortcuts etc) in the Seasonal races and have been from the beginning. some they choose to fix and others they don't.

I tried those when they first came online and finished 2nd in all of them. The one at Laguna Seca I was 4sec behind the leader at the finish. I did them with pretty much default cars out of my garage. I think with a little tuning and setup they shouldn't be all that hard to win.

You won't get 200mph on that track with that car, maybe the video was in kilometers?

Why didn't I think of kilometers... I bet you're right on that.

Either way, I decided to put that set on the back burner and work on some of the easier ones for now. I think I yet lack the skill required.

I only do seasonals when I need credits to buy a car or for upgrades to one of my cars. The new one where you do a timed lap at Suzuka with the X2010 is good for 5 million credits and is VERY easy to win. It is just a one-time thing though, the best seasonal to grind for cash is still the Ferrari at Sarthe, it will get you 500,000 in less than 4min.

They changed the credit payouts back to the old system. The Ferrari Challenge at Le Sarthe is back to under 200k credits.

Yeah, but it's still not terrible with the 200% bonus for those of us that play too often.

That said, there's a whole lot of grinding in Gran Turismo for a racing game. I was hoping to do more car racing and less World of Warcraft...

You can always use the Japanese hi-tech answer to grinding...it's called a rubber band.

But you shouldn't have to, should you? I'm sure it was different because I was roughly 14 at the time, but I just don't remember this amount of grinding in GT2 (the last GT I played). I enjoy the tuning and modding as well as the collecting, but I've got a life to manage too. I fear I'm becoming the Dirt type as time grows more scarce.

I agree, other than online racing, the game is mind-numbingly boring. I grind only when I need parts for one of my cars. I race in 3 different series each week and try to stick to the Super GT cars if at all possible. We used to have a Super GT series based here at AT that went pretty well.

I lucked out and got all the race cars in the game by trading before they implemented the limits.

Have you tried to max it out in power and weight and the reduce the PP by adding weight and reducing power with the adjustments ( I don't know the name but there are two options were you can reduce the % of the power you engine is putting out and another control to add weigh).
It sounds stupid but that way your engine will reach the peak faster and the weight may help with the handling.

Yeah, I think it's probably a lack of skill at this point. I decided to finish up A-Spec/B-Spec and the Licenses before I work on the Seasonals. Presently going through the Endurance races and wondering why I purchased this game...
