I'm thinking about dragging my PS3 out of the ol' garage and grabbing a copy of GT5 since the new Spec 2.0 Patch just came out.

2 Questions:

Does a sealed copy of GT5 contain anything that would be making it worth getting over an used copy? (The difference in 5 minutes worth of driving for the same price).

How much has the game improved with Spec 2.0 and the other recent patches?

From Wikipedia:
Spec 2.0 was released on October 11, 2011, which featured 11 new NASCAR vehicles, the ability to save during endurance races, weather intensity control and AI improvements

If it's the same price new and used, I'd always recommend getting new; you don't want to end up with a scratched disc or missing manuals or what not. Most people buy used to save money; if it's the same price, there is absolutely zero incentive (an extra 5-10 minutes of driving is basically nothing). If it's actually cheaper used though, I'd go that route; the manual is worthless, and there's no special stuff that comes in the standard edition.

Haven't played Spec 2.0, but all reports say that it improved a lot of issues. There's still a lot of grinding in the game; doing 3 or 4 race series to afford upgrades to do another 3 or 4 race series to afford a better car... You do get a lot of gift cars, but most of them aren't actually useful, with the exception of the Mazda Furai which you can win fairly early on and use to beat anything (that car is a monster). The progression of the game is tedious and illogical. But it's pretty, it's got a great physics model and a ton of excellent cars.

I am out of the loop on this game. Do you have to pay for the Spec 2.0, or is it just a free update?

I'll be picking up GT5 soon, I've been waiting for it to be 'marinated'. Looking forward to play GT5 over xmas break.

I've been having a lot of fun, finally picked up a GT-R('07) and tuned it out to about 570HP. Thing drives like a dream, still working on tweaking the transmission though.

Just get used to waiting. The GT5 updates seemed to load very slow, and there are a couple that are 1.5gb+. Get it on Christmas and maybe it will be ready to play by new year's.

Took me a trip to walmart and back for it to be done.

Got the Spec 2.0 patch yesterday, played for like 3 hours. The AI is still completely braindead.

Stop smashing your Honda Civic with 70K worth of upgrades. The game seems to expect you to keep it "real".

I'm finding it more enjoyable by limiting myself.

Any more most of my time is spent running ring laps...it's also fun to do some races and see just how underpowered of a car you can win with while still driving cleanly.

Like Raven said, if you just max tune your car you'll never have any fun...

I'll have to try it with the patch and see if there's any difference. I was very disappointed with it.

Spec 2.0 has been out since early Oct., the latest patch was 2.02. It did "fix" some issues. The tire wear was the biggest, now all the tires do not wear at the same rate. For the racing tires this means that the hard and medium compounds do last longer than the softs, as they should.

There is no improvement in the AI. The only good thing about the game is racing online with friends. The offline Aspec and Bspec are still terrible, regardless of how you "limit yourself".

Keeping it "real" must mean happily attempting to occupy the spot on the track you are, by slamming you into the wall, or hammering their brakes randomly in the middle of straights while going 150mph.

I like trucks more than cars, so after I checked on the AI, I've been trying to tune the various trucks to go on the Ring. It's not easy.

Indeed, Forza and TDU do a lot of a better job developing Single Player.
