sounds like they are still going to make a ton off of Prologue though.
Sony is urging PS3 racing fans to pick up a copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue rather than wait around for the full game, which won?t be released for about a year.
Writing in a PlayStation blog post, SCEA associate producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda addressed one fan?s concerns about spending cash on GT5 Prologue and then having to dish out again for the full game a few months later, not to mention spending on downloadable content.
?You could borrow it from someone, but that?s like licking the bowl after someone?s finished the ice cream,? said Miranda. ?Also, to further clarify, GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it, enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy) and become the most popular kid in town. The end.?
Series fans had been hoping that the latest full installment in the franchise, which Sony says has shifted over 50 million units to date, would be hitting stores at some point during 2008, but it appears developer Polyphony Digital needs a little more time to fine tune the title.
Miranda also dispelled rumors that online racing support for GT5 Prologue would be dropped six months after the game?s release.
?That?s a negative? GT5P online features will not be dropped 6 months post launch. You get in line for GT5P and drive your thumbs raw.?
Elsewhere in his blog post Miranda talks about the inspiration behind the music in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
The game will feature 71 cars and real-life tracks including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka. Online racing will also be enabled for the first time in GT's history with up to 16 players able to battle it out. There will be global online rankings, My Garage homepages where players can chat with friends and show off their motors and a Gran Turismo TV channel hosting motor and racing content.
GT5 Prologue launches in Europe as a PlayStation Network download on Thursday March 27 and in stores on Blu-ray disc on March 28 when it will be available as part of a new 40GB PS3 bundle or separately. The game is set to launch in North America on April 15.
