Is there anyway I can keep this even if I upgrade my phone through them...

This is one of the reasons I buy my phones from friends or through hofo.....

I dont want to lose the unlimited data capability.....

Does anyone know if there is a way around it..> I am month to month right now, but dont want to get rid of this lovely "feature"

This is my conundrum with Sprint (no longer in contract).
I'd like to leave for Verizon and 4G LTE (my area won't have it on Sprint for at least 2 years) but I am on an unlimited plan and I am not sure I want to give that up.

I have sprint where I am at in Md, but it sucks its pretty awful.... Verizon is 4G LTE where I am at and it kicks ass simple as that....

I have heard there are ways around this... but I dont know all the facts behind it....

I went online with Verizon last night and when I tried to upgrade a phone, it told me that I was required to get the new bullshit share everything plan and lose the unlimited plan. However, if I transferred the upgrade to another phone (from smart phone to dumb phone), it would allow me to upgrade the dumb phone to a smart phone using the previous plans (2GB for $30) and keep the unlimited plan on the original smart phone.

I really wish there were good alternatives (with good reception) to Verizon. The pricing (on most plans) is getting out of hand and I'm pretty damn sick of it.

When calling Verizon (back in the summer), I was told that I could upgrade phone (subsidized) and keep my current plan minus the unlimited data (rolled back to 2GB). Was told that I did not have to move to share everything plan.

I'm really dumbfounded by the large increase in Verizon subscribers since this plan was introduced. I think it's a shitty, money grabbing plan and gives many of us nothing but lower service and higher bills.

I was told that if I change my family plan to anything else I cannot get the unlimited data on my phone anymore. I wasn't aware that you can't change phones. It's really just an ESN change, isn't it? Why not call and ask? It's not like they'll take it away just for asking.

And if they say something to you, have them put it in writing. Because I've been screwed by VZW that way before.

I think if people start tallying their annual cellphone bill, they'll get a wakeup call. Since I have a family plan I split the expenses and just myself I'm spending over $600, and that's with discounts. My dad who barely uses it, has it for convenience/emergencies, is spending over $250.

Once he's off contract I'm gonna do the $80 Page Plus pre-paid for him. As for myself I can't let go of the unlimited data just yet since I've only had this Galaxy Nexus a year.

I would love to get off my contract and shop around but every time I get near it, someone wants a new phone and the only way to afford it is to upgrade and re-sign the contract for 2 years. I'm thinking about looking on eBay or going refurbished this year but even still, the cost difference is pretty high. Also, my contracts are so spread out among my 4 phones.....*sigh*.

The problem I have is traveling for work and the coverage and speeds. /snip I goofed. Sprint no longer offers the plan I had looked at a couple months ago. It's now $80 for unlimited data, text and 450 anytime minutes. That's nearly what I pay now. I have 450 anytime minutes, unlimited data, text for $85 base and 18% discount...total bill right at 82-83/month. Sprint has crappier coverage so I'd be gaining nothing unless I used my work phone as my primary. But due to crap service I don't plan on it.

Sprints 3g speeds on my work phone are consistently below 100k (iPhone 4s btw) and their LTE coverage is subpar at best. It is up and working in some places but randomly off and not available in others. If they could get reliable coverage and speeds I'd dump my Verizon unlimited plan and ip5 and switch to Sprint and save the money.

I agree... I am going to call today... I have a family plan but I basically added my g/f to my plan for $10 dollars but I kept my unlimited data... she has the 4GB a month for 30 where i pay 30 for unlimited before my discount... BLEH

The only way to keep unlimited when ordering online is to choose "pricing for month to month" in the drop down.

You lose the carrier subsidy, but there's no contract extension, and you don't lose unlimited data.

You'll have to do the math and decide which is more important, because they won't give you both.

Bummer, huh?

There are 3 ways to keep your grandfathered plan on Verizon and I've done it all 3 ways and my friend owns 12 private stores and did this for me.

You transfer your upgrade to a dumb phone and then switch phones.

You buy your new phone full contract price

You transfer your upgrade to a line that is already on a capped data plan and upgrade there phone then when the phone comes in don't turn it on and have someone at Verizon do a phone swap back to your old uncapped line.

I just did this for my brother and gave his upgrade to my mom and got her an iPhone 5 while she is on a gs3 with 2 GB plan and then when the phone came in we swapped it to my brothers old line.

I've done it a few times and right now I have 2 gs3's and an iPhone 5 that were upgraded at a discount and we still have unlimited data on them.

Yeah, as mentioned you can keep it, but not doing a subsidized upgrade on that line.

I would go into a store so the rep is looking right at the person who will be waiting in the parking lot after work if they screw up. Heck I need to do that just to keep my $5 text plan around.

Yesterday my son dumped his unlimited for a 2G limit. They were only using 1.25 each month. Saved $90.

For $20 more he can up to 4G limit
