Nice read and comparison Thugs

Still can't get away from ASUS myself.

P4C800 in hand and going to start putting it together
tonight. Still will be running my 2.53 though.

Will use SetFSB to clear the fsb hole
until my 2.6C gets here next week.

And wouldn't you be able to run the 533FSB NBS with a 800FSB CPU and use the 1:1 ratio?
i think the N/BS also changes certain "turbo" type settings that are in the buggy #11 bios but not visable in the #10 bios.
but the #11 bios was so slow and unstable i couldnt play around with it too much.

i have no idea how the 800fsb cpus would run with a N/BS of 533 ~ probably fine if you have XMS memory and 1:1 ratio.
but if you overclock a 800 youll need to use N/BS667 or 800 to get the 5:4 or 3:2 ratios. (which means youll lose turbo settings until they eventually come out with a fully functioning bios)

N/BS400 = 3:4 SPD
N/BS533 = 1:1 4:5 SPD
N/BS667 = 1:1 5:4 SPD
N/BS800 = 1:1 5:4 3:2 SPD

Thanks, hopefully they'll release a new BIOS before I receive my board...

Looking forward to your HyperX results, that's the ram I ordered. (only 2x256MB though )

so far with the ram....

memtest86 on the p4g8x @ 179fsb:

2x 256mb xms3200LL cas 22261 2.5v = passed
2x 512mb khx3000 cas 22261 2.5v = passed

neither ram will run 22251 even with 2.7v.

i still hafta test the other 2 sticks and all 4 at once.
i cant run any benchmarks til i load Win2kpro.....

but so far ive got myself 2x 512mb of ram for cheap

512mb khx3000 = $89 each from googlegear
512mb xms3200LL = $142 each from googlegear

$89! That is a great price on that ram!

Googlegear also has the
XMS 512-3200C2 for $99 right now

Ran a few tests comparing P4G8X to the P4C800.

Very much like yours Thugs.
Little to no difference between the two boards
with the exception of Canterwood and a C P4
might get some gains.

Can't see any reason to upgrade to Canterwood without a P4-C chip.

P4G8X vs P4C800

Good work. I dont see why there should be much difference.

The Big reasons to go with 875/865 over 7205

1) P4C support With the ability to reach ~ 300+ MHz FSB
2) Lower cost. Abit IC7 ~ $150 currently. 865PE boards in the low $100s
3) ICH5 native SATA and SATA RAID

Actually, I ordered an IC7 last week. I would have bought Thugs' board if he had it for sale a few days earlier.

Guess it is time to order some HX3200 or 3500.
There seems to be quite a few compatability questions with these
Canterwood boards and the memory/mobo manufacturers.

Thugsrook

Will you try the P4C800 ?

Which memory do you prefer ? (xms3200LL or khx3000)

Regards,
Jose

XMS3200LL has been causing problems with the canterwood boards...but me waits for thugs opinion also...
if there are $50 difference and they perform about the same...i would go with the HyperX...

I don't understand the whole 3200LL issue - Why not just go with XMS-3500C2PT, Save Money and work at 2-2-2-5-1 timings at 200MHz? Two sticks of 512 are $270.00 - And I have run 212MHz at those timings at under 2.7V.
