Ack, but Evan we can't wait so long!
Could you at least give us a hint about the performance relative to the 850E with Rambus 1066? Just a tiny hint...!
It's faster.
Evan, I don't see why that should be. ...how do you account for that?
seniorguy~ While DCDDR and RDRAM provide comparable bandwidth, DDR can do it at higher FSB. Whereas PC1066 tops out at around 150MHz FSB and RIMM4200 at around 160MHz FSB, DCDDR can do 200MHz FSB. For low FSB overclocks, I would expect RDRAM and DCDDR to perform close to one another, but for high FSB overclocks, DCDDR has a clear performance advantage!

Alright, since Ninepepper just had to bring it up again, I'll go an extra step further and say...you'll get benchmarks within two weeks. Happy?

so was the NDA moved to mid nov or are we going to still get benchmarks this week?..just no review till mid nov?..i'm trying to be patient since i have 2x512MB sticks of PC2700 samsung 6ns and pretty much everything else except for mb/proc...

will it be worth the wait...a GB mb w/3.06 ht enabled p4?..or just be satisfied w/the 845pe and overclock the mess out of it?..

the GB is limited to DDR333 right now, correct? Is there anyway to overclock the memory bus past 333 and closer to 400?

From what I understand DDR 266 is what GB is going to support when it is first released

from what i understand it may as well be just 1:1....

the memory bus cant be wider then the fsb or its useless. (ala AMD)
1:1 is perfectly matched for bandwidth so.....

Right on. DCDDR333 will be supported by the Prescott CPU (667 FSB) and the SpringDale chipset (with ICH5) - sometime next year.

My big question is will there be boards that have 4 DIMM slots(2 per channel) and more importantly, can you populate all 4 w/o using registered sticks? I have 4 sticks of 256MB PC2100 lying around and I'd like to be able to use all 4 at once.

Are they going to make an 845 board without the crappy onboard lan and sound...

What about us who want a plain vanilla board??? I don't want to disable anything, I want to cutomize it the way that I want.

Thanks

Me too, I have two sticks of PC2700 that I would love to put in a Daul-DDR MoBo, but not until some ( SIS, Via, or Intel) officially support it.

Thank you for this thread, its prevented me from making the same mistake ive made when i built my current system, w/ abit kt7a raid and the new 1 gig athlon. One month later ddr was introduced and I felt like old news right out of the gate. 850pe features are good, but I would be making the same mistake not to wait for granite bay. I am finished w/ pushing my chips past specs and I have paid for it.I feel Intel's chips have always given that sense of security. It would be my greatest wish , that when mb makers have these boards ready to go that they dont prolong it for some grand intro bs.anyway thks again

I'd love to see your testing how well the boards handle when all memory slots are populated with a total of 4 GB. This is a very important factor in my buying decisions. IMHO, testing with 256 or 512 MB is just lame.

After searching for some time the internet and reading the thread on the GB, I wonder if its really worth waiting for DCDDR boards, especially since I read somewhere that those will be mainly server solutions....Not sure though, I am a bit confused.
What do you guys think, when will boards from Via, SiS,...be available?

I believe that the K8V is a board for the Hammer. So the last three images are AMD related.
My guess is the chip with the AMD logo on it is the Hammer

Obviously, that has nothing to do with the Granite Bay boards. I dont' read Japanese, but I presume that's a pix of one of the new Tbreds.

I would like to see an unlocked P4 used in the review and the FSB speed taken as high as it'll go. Overclocking should be GB's real strength compared to RDRAM and an important reason to choose one over a RDRAM system. Kyle over at HardOCP got his Asus P4G8X Granite Bay board up to 188MHz (air-cooled, early sample board) so I'll expect the AnandTech guys to beat that.

Can you also clarify that the NDA for GB expires on the 14th of November and not the 4th of November (that date has been suggested on a couple of sites). I understand the 14th of November is the same day that the NDA for the 3.06HT expires too, right?

Oh yeah, who's the manufacturer of your GB board?

Instead of upgrading my PC800 RDRAM to PC1066, I'll just buy a new mobo based on the GB and use my regular Crucial PC2100 with my P4 2.4ghz (533fsb). Same bandwidth but possibly better peformance as Evan has hinted.
