Has anyone heard of any updates regarding the availability of the GB boards? Some in this thread said middle of the month while others predict the end of the month. I know I want one and do not want to wait until mid December to get one.

So, release dates anyone...?

If Evan's information is accurate then the boards aren't that expensive.......

Asus P4G8X Deluxe - $190
Gigabyte GA-8INXP - $175

Many people are still thinking the boards are $300+ because of that stupid article over at the Inquirer.

I'm expecting boards to be available in December.

There are reports of SiS655 boards on sale in Japan already, but they will not be in US retail channels until late Dec or Jan.

Just to elaborate on this, here is some info from Anand's Comdex reports.....

ECS is already selling limited numbers of SiS 655 boards on the market today. Their SiS 655 boards (L4S55A) aren't selling in the U.S. yet, but they're definitely in Asia, though in limited quantities at the moment. ECS tells us that their 655 board will be ready for the U.S. this month, although we have our doubts, despite the close relationship between SiS and ECS. It is interesting to note that MSI cites a January timeframe for shipping their SiS 655 boards.
...and a bit more on SiS 655.....
Above we have MSI's SiS 655 motherboard; this board will be named 655 Max or 655 8Xtreme, but won't be available until January 2003 due to low supplies at the moment (more on SiS 655 supplies later).

It's interesting to note that SiS 655 is significantly cheaper than Intel dual DDR E7205 chipset. In fact, we were told that SiS 655 will sell for around $35-37 to certain motherboard makers while Intel is currently selling E7205 chipsets to motherboard makers for around $55. Since we know that fully-loaded E7205 motherboards will retail for between $175 and $190, this gives us a rough indication of how expensive SiS 655 motherboards will be.

I'm just about ready to put together a new system & I had a few stupid questions about these DCDDR boards... Am I correct in understanding that I will need to populate 2 slots with similar type/size mem mods for the mobo to function properly? My gut is leaning towards the Asus P4SDX but I'm a little concerned about when its due out... Any hard facts to support an imminent release? Also, does anyone know when the Via chipset boards are due out? Thanks in advance & please pardon my n3wbn355 =p

I just read the review, nicely done, Evan!

One thing, though: I didn't see any of the P4G8X overclocked performance scores, and I didn't see mention of why not anywhere in the article. Did I miss something?

i'd like to see those scores too...and it'd be especially nice if you could throw in how far you could push this with a decent cooling unit on top of a P4 3.06 + HT...

I think he left it out to show the performance difference in the 3 chipsets. The P4G8X's performance would pretty much be the same as the gigabyte board.

I was wanting a GB board as well as many others, but after seening the review, I am wondering if I should just buy a PE board like BE7 which will save me at least $50. It seems like the PE is able to stay very close to GB while overclocked especially in games, which I'm more concerned about. To me, $50 for few fps in ut2k3 is not worth it. I'd rather spend it on a better video card.

You can see some benchmark lovin' from an Asus P4G8X running at 190MHz FSB over here. Remember when you see the huge advantage the overclocked GB board has that it also has 300MHz+ more CPU speed than the other platforms.

I want to say to Evan this was a very nice review and the tops of the 5 I have read...I love the fact you listened to some of the thoughts in this thread...I think you showed will what I and some others were stating...This is mainly for the overclockers who can really stand to gain a lot of potential bandwidth......

The Asus P4G8X is listed on pricewatch now for $179 and the deluxe version for $199 with an ETA of 11/30/02 for MyInfinity.com. Don't know if this is old news or not but I just saw it listed and did not see anything in this post about it.

wow .. 179USD for a DCddr mobo is not too bad. Hopefully gigabyte will fall in that price too , i like giga more then asus because it has more IDE channel for me to fill in my 3 HD and dvdrom and cdrw.

I too am interested if this is a requirement for dual channel on the GB chipset.

Also tbreak.com says "Although we did not face any problem with stability, there will be compatibility problems with certain memory modules so its best to check if your module is supported by Granite Bay before getting a board." (this pertains to the MSI GNB MAX board).

Where can one find if their memory modules are supported?
