I'm buying my HTPC tonight and have everything down but the graphics card.

I have 4 cards i'm looking at, 2 Nvidia, 2 ATI

XFX 8600GT
Zotac 8800GT

or

ATI HD 2600XT
ATI HD 3850

I'm wanting to run 1 HDMI Cable from the computer to the Onkyo 605 receiver and was told the 8600 and 8800 would need the spdif cable from the mb to the video card and then the dvi to hdmi would carry the sound to the hdmi. I've looked and looked and could not find people running these cards and using the spdif and dvi to hdmi and having both sound and video. I would to know for sure.

Also seen the 2600xt and 3850. I've heard good and bad things about the 2600xt, some say it works flawless with playback of Blu-ray and HDDVD, some say it won't output to 1080p without stuttering. So then I was looking at the 3850. People say great things about this but I'm wondering, if I go with ATI which brand should I get?

So my question, of these 4 cards, which will be the best. Not which one is the cheapest. If the better card is cheaper then the others then yes it's ok, but i'm looking for the best output for my computer.

I'm a graphic designer and use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign a lot and most the time at the same time. I want to be able to watch Blu-ray/HD DVD, HD content, as well as standard DVD's with this machine. Also, one more question. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS currently plugged into my Logitech Z-5500's and also my Dell 20" Widescreen is running of this. Is there a way to have my audio and video switch over to my desktop PC screen, and back to the 52" Sony Bravia 1080p tv?

My computer rig that is being ordered is this

GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R MB
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2
LG GGC-H20L Blu-ray DVD+R±RW Drive
Antec 450W PSU

3850 is better for htpc, imho... and get a 500w psu... i have an antec 450 smartpower that is a weak performer... look in the hd forum for the on sale 3850's...

u can go from analog speakers with pc screen to spdif for hdtv... u just have to switch outs in audio control panel...

u will be using spdif unless u get a card that specifically does sound thru hdmi... i have a 8600gts that has a loopback cable for the spdif out to go to theh vid card then out the hdmi port... but using dvi->hdmi and a spdif or optical for sound works fine...
