Graphics card died, what to do?

Well like the title says, my gtx 280 has been stricken with the pink screen of death, rendering it useless. Although I'll still try to stick it in the oven as a last resort, I highly doubt that will achieve anything. My rig is gtx 280, intel e8400, 4 gigs of RAM and a 22" monitor
That said I need a working pc, so at this point I can either buy a new card or go for a new pc entirely.

I think I can opt for either:

-new high end card. But it seems like kind of a waste to put it into an old build.
- build a new computer. I'm closer to this option, as I have the money for it, but to be honest I don't really see a point. My current rig can handle all of the newest games at 16x10 at the highest details, barring AA or some dx11 effects. Therefore I have no clue what I'd put my new power to use, seeing as I don't see any new crysis like game on the horizon.

So I turn to you oh Anandtech for advice in this situation, as I can really go either way. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Why? Assuming it doesn't fail like this one, you could always put it in a new build later.

Here's one I like that ought to be about the same performance as an OCed 280. Or, you can always pay more if you want to.

It just seems to me that I'm bound to upgrade in a year or two, and then the card would not be up to speed, especially if it was just a replacement.
Also, wouldn't something along the likes of a 560/580 be bottlenecked in my system?

Why not build one? you have old tech so you can sell it off and build a new comp

I'm leaning towards that option, but as I wrote; it seems more like an end in itself. It would be nice to have a new pc, but what games would actually benefit from it?

im sure youll get more FPS from all games. And youll be able to MAX out every option.

But you would have gotten two years of use out of it at that point. $65 per year (one new game) doesn't sound like a bad price to me!

I'd try to bake it first and if that didn't work get a mid range card to hold you over.

Alright, I'm going to cook it as soon as I get hold of a back up card. If that fails I guess upgrade time came early.
