Lets say...LCD monitor has a response time of 8ms, and the refresh rate of the graphics card is set to 60 Hertz.

If the refresh rate is increased to 100 hertz, will the response time of LCD decrease or remain same ?

You have to make sure your LCD supports 100hz first, and if it does then it will allow you to see more than 60fps but it will not decrease the response time of the LCD.

Lets start off with 8ms = 1/0.008 = 125hz (5ms = 1/0.005 = 200hz, 2ms = 1/0.002 = 500hz)

That being said, the response time in a LCD is the maximum time it takes for a full switch of a pixel. Basically going from nothing (dark) to something (bright) or vice-versa. Lesser changes take less time.

So the answer to your question is - the response time will always remain the same.

Normally I play 1st person shooting games, and this 8ms is killing me

Currently I have Samsung L3 series 32" LCD Tv.

Does anyone have information regarding a LCD 1080p with HDMI support which runs on 2ms or atleast 4ms response time ?

Please help.

as someone already pointed out, 8ms is twice as fast as your TV can update frames. your problem is not response time, it's probably processing time.

are you actually observing 'ghosting' or 'smearing' or does everything just feel laggy?

The LCD response time is really a pixel thing, the video card/LCD decoders really have no way of changing it. The signal is applied to the pixel and it takes a "response time" to change. I can play on my old 25ms samsung 170mp and it really isn't noticeable. I prefer my 26" soyo 2ms though.

What video card do you have and is it powerful enough for 1080p?

read anandtech's guide on input lag and tweak your PC first. if it still sucks, it's the TV. any PC monitor would probably be a large improvement.

I just looked up your monitor. It's 720p. Are you playing at that resolution?

And make sure you have v-sinc off, it kills FPS game logic.

Always play at native resolution. The LCD's onboard logic has to resample it if it's above or below. However, this is unnoticeable and takes no measurable time.

Again what video card do you have?

ATI Radeon HD 4800 series 1 GB, but I will check and let you know the exact model, but it has HDMI, VGA & Digital output.

ATM I am out of my house.

P.S.

I heard SOYO went out of business ?

Can I still buy SOYO ?

(1) The response time will stay the same.
(2) The vast majority of displays cannot actually do true 100 Hz; most simply interpolate or insert black frames.

Response time won?t help that. The refresh rate might but again, your display has to actually be able to go higher than 60 Hz, which is unlikely.

The input lag is caused by your display buffering frames. Try to disable your display?s video processor by using modes such as ?gaming mode? or ?pass-through mode?. Also try to disable overdrive/RTC if you can.

You are running at 1024 rez, and can set it for 1080p on a 720p TV? Are you by chance using the "PC" plug on your TV? The blue one?

If you are, don't Get a HDMI->DVI cable and run at your native rez, it will make everything much, much better.

Ok summing up.

Get the latest drivers

Set your resolution to 1366(H) x 768(V)

Make sure v-sinc is off

It's probably input lag - i.e. your graphics card sends the information for the frame but the LCD spends say 65ms processing it before getting around to displaying it. LCD tv's do this to improve picure quality and it's not a problem for a tv but matters for games. Sometimes you can lower it a bit by using the VGA connector (works for my samsung lcd tv - although I don't use it for gaming so don't care).
