Graphics Failure and Blue Screens Galore!

Hi all.

My desktop (in my signature) has been giving me quite a lot of trouble since I bought it from another Anandtech member. Mainly because my computer will freeze ALL THE TIME and give me this message:

http://www.microcenter.com/ima...ePOSTFailure_large.jpg

When I enter BIOS I get the option to set overclocking to Manual or Auto, and that doesn't seem to help much. I tried setting it to Manual (it's on Auto) and it didn't make the situation better.

If anyone had any clue where to begin with that, that would be most excellent. I ran Orthos to make sure it wasn't a stress thing and it locked up during Orthos, so I don't know what to do there.

Secondly with my desktop, whenever I attempt to run some WC3 for some good DOTA gaming the screen pulls up a very distorted graphics image that doesn't go away even if I quit the game. Usually it looks like a bunch of green and black diagonal lines, and that's it. Yet once out of every 15 or so tries I'll get lucky and WC3 will open and run fine (of course then that time it'll probably decide to lock up or something).

Also, if I leave my computer on for 4 hours and come back, I'll log back in to the normal log-in screen, (like the windows vista sign-in thing), and it'll sign into the diagonal lines! The graphics will be normal for logging in and then when I sign it it will go to the dreaded graphics that never go away no matter how I alt tab or quit or X out of stuff.

And the other problem is that I have a Sattellite A11 Toshiba laptop that seems to love blue screening permanently and dumping memory and such, and it can't find the correct files to boot. Any word on where to begin here? Someone said that it may be a RAM or HD failure, and that I should check those?

Thanks in advance for any hints or advice.

The video problem sounds like it might be heat related. Is the vid card fan operating? HS clean? Good case ventilation?

The boot problem might be the result of an overclock setting. Try the default settings in the bios setup. You can re-adjust them later if it clears it up.

How do I disable overclocking? My only options are Auto and Manual under the heading "overclocking"

press F2, that should reload the factory defaults. I think you may have done damage to the cpu and/or ram.
