Hi, my system specs are:
Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester
1 Gig of PC3200
EVGA Geforce 6800 AGP
Abit AV8 Motherboard(K8T800 chipset)
Antec Trueblue Power Supply
Whenever I start playing any current, graphics intensive game (Chaos Theory, Half Life 2, FEAR) my screen freezes within a few minutes. Sometimes it doesnt even make it past the intro cutscene as with Half Life 2 and FEAR. What happens is the bottom 95% of the screen crashes into diagnal lines and colors and a small area near the top is still recognizable as part of the game or even the desktop if I alt-tab out. It's never happened outside of a game. I've run Memtest86 and Prime95 with no errors and I've tried to leave Abit EQualizer running while im playing but it doesnt report any errors (Its supposed to be setup to beep or shut the system down if the cpu temperature gets too hot, the fans stop, or the voltages go out of wack.) I recently upgraded to the Geforce 6800 from a Radeon 9200 which was having similar issues, however with the old card they were fixed by switching to AGP 4x mode in the bios. No such luck now. Also, the older crashes with the 9200 were different in that the system became totally unresponsive and i had to hold down the power button to restart the computer. With the current crashes, I can still see the top bit of screen moving when i move my mouse around in the game or when i alt-tab out to the desktop. I know this was long, but thanks for any suggestions I've just been getting kinda worried after spending all this money
