graphics guru help? Vectorize this?

So I've got Illustrator but have very little experience with it, and had an idea to put a Grampa Simpson 'Fightin' Hellfish' sticker on my newly painted race car. Unfortunately the best image I could find online is a little lower resolution that I'd like, and thought since it's a cartoon it would vectorize nicely.

The default Live Trace settings in Illustrator seem to mangle it a bit and make alot of the detail go away. Anyone have any experience here? Maybe vectorizing isn't the way to go?

I'm hoping to put the image on a 6" custom sticker from zazzle.com and want to make it as high resolution as possible for the sake of quality.

Yah. The pen tool is my favorite tool, so its easy to do curves. I use a wacom tablet as a mouse so that makes it a lot easier.
