Great 5.1 Speaker System - OOS

These are not your usual cheap 5.1 speakers, when i lived in the UK, i bought a set of these for around $400 when they came out. They are the best 5.1 speakers i've ever had, and beat the Logitech 5.1 systems they have out.

As soon as i found these today i bought a pair, and i don't even need them as i'm running a laptop.

Hmm, how the hell are they sooo cheap? I've never really heard of them before, but reviews of the speakers list them as ~$400 USD. Are they refurbished or something?

There were a lot of versions of this speaker set. Videologic was pretty popular in '00-01. I think the $400 set had a digital decoder box. If I remember correctly this is the low cost version which didnt include the separate decoder and retailed for about 150ish.

OUCH.... $23.00 shipping to the Philly, PA area, but for 30lbs. from the west coast to the east coast, I guess that ain't too bad.

They will do for now on my computer, since I also sometimes just patch into my regular sound system, when I want to SHARE my music with ALL my neighbors....

I bought into it. I figure if it's anywhere close to the supposed output power in the specs, it's worth the $39 + $23 (shipping).

Output power does not equate to good speakers, especially when it comes to computer speakers.

I look forward to the days when I can buy a pair of computer speakers that sound amazing but are quiet. But for now, I have to stick to headphones when I want to hear high quality sound without blowing out my eardrums.

I've heard alot of complaints about TigerDirect, but i've never had any trouble with compugeeks myself. Nor had I heard anything really bad about them. That's just me though.

I'd jump on this because of the 5.1, but I feel i'd be dissapointed with the quality compared to my Logitech 4.1 Z560s

My experience exactly, won't deal with tiger, but other than average shipping times, the Geeks have done OK by me on my orders.

Really how are these sooo cheap? http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/reviews/DigiTheatre/DigiTheatre.html lists them at $400 w/ the decoder... but if you take out the decoder I doubt it should be more than $200 cheaper than the listed price. I guess because they are old? Really wish I had some place to try these out so I could decide... ahh!

yougotdeals, these things blow away the logitechs, i know because i had the logitech speakers until recently. the sound on these are incredible.

i would choose the digitheatre over the z560's any day. when i had these speakers, i have a 40ft long living room that i had the speakers in, and i had these plugged into a dvd player. everybody who heard the speakers were amazed by the quality, and it blew away everybodies surround setup.

i've just bought a pair of these just because they are so cheap, don't know what i'm gonna do with them, probably plug them into my dvd player again.

The GEEKS regular price was $60 (NOT the MSRP of the speaker set)

These definitely lack the decoder, but I think one can be picked up from Midiland
Midiland ADS 400 decoder $139.00

(The decoder that came with the original VideoLogic DigiTheatre 5.1 system was identical to the Midiland ADS-2000, now discontinued; accordind to the review linked above)

I got the 4th last one of these from the geeks with FREE shipping (well, actually will-call pick-up ;-)
There was only 1 left when my transaction completed.
