I don't remember exactly how much it was on the last sale, but it struck me as reasonable. For 8 pounds, I'm thinking it was in the neighborhhod of $6-8 to Massachusetts.

Though it pays to br careful, these guys seem to me to be the real deal.

This is a great deal. I was there this afternoon and the line went all the way back to the coffee counter. There was even a guy who bought enough to last a year--he's from vermont.

Stopped in this evening. Excellent coffee, and maybe the coolest coffee roaster/shop in The City. I'm happy support them. And the Organic FT French Guatemalan is the shiznit - oh sweet sweet dark caffienated nectar.

Just out of curiousity - why did they misspell Puerto Rico? Is that intentional?

It gives an already basic website a really amateurish look.

But, a lot of these little mom&pop places can't afford good websites (or often don't have the gifted 12yr old web developer to help them).

I believe Porto is the original Spanish spelling. I kinda like the amateurish look of the web site as it, more or less, reflects the nature of the place.

Klingsor, I'm happy you like the Guatemalan (I think that's what shiznit means!). I sometimes hear the adjective wine-like applied to coffee, but this is the only one that I think it to be obviously true. Kinda reminds me of a very well-rounded Merlot.

I'm glad you all are finding it worthwhile.

I don't think he was thread crapping. He was making a point that their website is a little dated and poorly designed even at that. It looks like they setup a table in MSWord and saved it as a website after adding some clipart.

What makes it look legit though is the fact they list their locations, phone numbers, etc... No disrespect to you since you know the company. You'd just think since they're in Manhattan, they'd find an unemployed programmer looking for work to design their website....it looks like they used an unemployed street sweeper instead.

Why would anyone buy a year's worth of roasted coffee?? Two weeks after roasting, coffee loses all of its freshness and goes flat. I can't imagine how stale his coffee will taste 6 months from now! :disgust:

This company is legit and the sale is a good one. They do it every year and I've ordered from them every year. They run a $3.99 per pound coffee weekly so once shipping is added, which are UPS prices, it's still very competitive with your local supermarket.

Personally, I just can't pay $9.99 per pound and then add shipping charges on top of that. It just bugs me.

Just ask for ground or whole bean on the order form. Vacuum sealing is not an option though. It's just a paper bag with an plastic-like coated lining.

I understand at gut level reaction that a nicely designed web page implies a serious effort and therefore a greater probability of legitimacy, but my personal belief is that the hucksters and charlatans out there are well aware of that response, and exploit it by slick, but fraudulant, organizations with very nice web pages.
