As a student, you are entitled to 4 round trip flights per year if you sign up for the student American Express card. The tickest vary in price depending on your location. The price for a round trip flight is as low as $120 and as high as $300, the highest going coast to coast. You can sign up for it at www.americanexpress.com/student.

You don't have to have any credit, and this is a great way for you to establish it.

American Express also offers a savings on international flights, but it isn't as great a deal.

The restrictions are that you have to book the flight between 24 hours and 30 days in advance, that you stay over a Saturday, and that the trip is no longer than 30 days long.

Well, hotdealfinder, you just have to realize that the crate they gave you is for your DOG, not yourself.

this was my first credit card....if you're in teh habit of paying off your balances on time, then the perks are sweet....otherwise you'll be takin it up the ass from their interest rate....

When I tried to schedule a flight with those tickets, they said they only have a limited number of seats in some obscure class so it may be difficult to use them. But then again they're free.

I've only used the net once to book a flight, also booked a hotel and a rental car at the same time. I used Travelocity.com.
The whole priceline.com thing just bugs me for some reason and I think HotDeal has nailed it. It was a direct flight to Houston round trip, cost me 179 for the round tripper. I dunno about priceline but to me, thats a damn good price for Detroit Intl to Hobbie

Something about Priceline that a lot of people are unaware of is that you MUST take the specific flight(s) you are offered by the airline. If, for instance, your flight leaves at 4pm but you show up at 6am hoping to catch an empty seat on an earlier departure, think again. The airlines WILL NOT let you do that since you bought a highly reduced fare on a restriction (and they're not going to give priceline any breaks--that's why the majors are all consolidating on their own rate-saver websites in near future). If you've got *all* day (or night) to get to your destination and don't mind inconvenience, Priceline may be right for you.

priceline is crap... at least for short notice flights. I many times need to travel within a day or two.. priceline is useless since they take 5 or more days to get you your ticket and don't use electronic ticktets(What's up with that?)

I usually find much better deals with cheaptickets.. and there is no 5 day wait for your tickets.. and you can pick the flight.. much better deal.

Also, coast to coast, I've always been able to upgrade the cheap ($189 round trip) coach tickets I've gotten from cheap tickets to first class for an additional $50.00.. so there you go First Class Round Trip from Philadelphia to San Francisco for $239 - on 2 days notice... sweet deal!
I usually drink more than $50.00 worth of alchohol on a 5-6 hour flight anyway!

*sulks* most college kids arent able to drink $50 worth of alcohol on a 6 hour flight over the US... to England its a diff story. Stuped US drinking age. I have to be elligible to be called to war to kill people I dont know, and yet I cant mame anyone while drunk and driving in my home country till I am 21

tillius,

I've gotten some VERY cheap cross country round trip fares ($120 range), volunteered for a bump to get free flights which I used to travel from the midwest to CA, and been bumped to first class for free by chatting up the ticket agent, but no one has ever offerered to bump me to first class for $50. What procedure do you use to get this, and does it always work?

tillius,
What do mean Priceline is not using electronic tickets? I ordered from them a few time every year for the past few years, and use electronic tickets every time. No problem whatsoever. Had you really tried Priceline before?

What does Priceline have to do with this "hot deal"? =)

As for the Amex deal, they usually won't give you a card unless you have AAA credit. =(

priceline sucks balls. no wonder they got kicked out of the better business bureau.

the american express is actually a good deal, especially if you're really desperate to fly 4 times a year. the prices are almost the same as the ones at travelocity.com.

Amex is pretty strict with whom they give their cards to but since this is a card exclusively for students, I doubt they will care. My first card was a student card and they did not care about my credit, except they gave me a $500 credit limit so I wasn't able to go all out at department stores.

You know, Priceline DOES blow. My sisters booked a flight, early, for Thanksgiving and they got stuck with a terrible arrival/departure times. Can you refuse Priceline tickets once you "win" the price or are you stuck with it?

no you cant refuse according to them, but i spoke to a supervisor and got all mad and stuff and charged me 75 reversal fee, which i then told x.com(which i now hate for toher reasons)to block any charges from them for a costof 25 bucks, and i havent heard from priceblows since, so to sum it up it cost me 25 bucks to cancel, if not so lucky itll cost you 75 bucks, i complained cause the fine print was several pages in about they pick the times, which i think is suck

Priceline is only good if you don't mind the inconvienence of having the whole day spent on the airplane or at the airport, and they may stick u with a early morning flight w/ 2-3 stops in the middle, but I bet Priceline is gonna go outta business not too far in the future since I they can never actually meet buyers expectations anymore.

I'm guessing Priceline does not have a future, for 2 reasons:

1. The above-mentioned problems of getting stuck with something you don't want will prevent people from returning to Priceline;

2. Priceline's money comes from airline tickets, but within a couple of months the major airlines will be putting up specialty sites that will offer very low fares, to the extent that ticket agencies and others are scarred sh!tless at the prospect of losing major business. The airlines see the attraction (and money being made) of low fare sales over the web, and they're gonna get their piece of it (and shut down most of the competition in the process).

Besides being a total jerk, Unsickle doen't know his a** from a hole in the ground.

Pricleine can't provide these tickets at these prices, they are purchased from Continental and you have many options for flights and times, although if your're giving them 24 hour notice, you might have to take a red eye.

I tried priceline, and they couldn't give me the price I wanted, regardless of how many stops it had, but they did give out my credit card number to other companies who started charging things on them. I have to get the card account cancelled and reopened an new one to stop the charges from coming in.

This is a great deal for students, and the flights are good. A few weeks ago, I went round trip to nyc from seattle **non-stop**, and it cost $320.00 with all the new taxes. Find me a price like that with two days notice ANYWHERE without it being standby or some other crap.
