I slashed my premiums by $110 a month by switching to American Family from Progressive. When I called Progressive and told them they said sorry thats all we can do. So I said goodbye, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Insurance premiums are why I drive 14 year old cars that are paid off. My premiums for 100/300/50 liability and roadside assistance with a $500 deductible are like $150 / 6 months through State Farm.

well i decided to give this a try, i work for a state farm agent and was curious how esurance.com compares. heres the results:

...............................state farm.............................esurance................................
bi/pd........................30/60/25..............................25/50/25................................
med pay.....................5000....................................5000....................................
uninsured...................30/60...................................25/50..................................
comp ded.....................250......................................250....................................
coll ded.........................250.....................................300.....................................
roadside assis...........no limit................................$75 limit................................
rental.........................25/600.................................25/750.................................
______________________________________________________________
total(6 mos.).............$702.60...............................$727.00.................................

both quotes are for a 24 year old male with no tickets or accidents in the last 6 years. they are also for pleasure usage with less than 7,500 miles per year and used the same vehicle.

Be very careful shopping for insurance. You get what you pay for.

Hmmm, there's a surprise, they don't offer coverage in Jersey. As for getting what you pay for with insurance, I'd tend to doubt that Selective, who quoted me $7000 a year on a 2001 Mustang GT when I'm over 25, have no accidents and no tickets, has service that much better than all-state who quoted me $1250 a year. Can you guess who my insurance company is? Cheers,
Shawn

I worked for insurance companies for several years, and I'll second this comment & add to it. Be very careful shopping for insurance, and don't assume that a big company is your best bet. Some of the biggest companies are simply big crooks with big advertising budgets. Also, don't judge your company on how well they handle payments and billing. Anyone can take your money. Ask around and find out how good a company is at handling claims. This step should be done locally since each state has different laws, underwriting guidelines, claims offices, etc. Just because people in California have had great experiences with a particular company doesn't mean that their Georgia division is great as well.

Personally, I gladly pay a little more for my Amica insurance. They don't advertise, relying solely on word of mouth, but I have never heard of anyone being ripped off by them. After being ripped personally by State Farm (GA & SC), and having a neighbor get royally ripped by Allstate (GA), I'm very picky about which insurance companies I trust.

Watch out for esurance. After your policy is over, they will auto-renew you without your authorization or notification. I got rid of them last year and it took 3 written letters, 5 or 6 phone calls and the threat to report them to the department of insurance to get them to not auto-renew and refund the payments they took after the initial policy expired.

They started charging me with 2 months left on old policy for the new policy that I didn't sign up for. esurance is a shady business. They weren't very cheap and I got a much better deal at progressive.com ($500 cheaper per year with full coverage).

You really must shop around. I got one policy for my niece from Esurance for $360 per 6 mos for full coverage on a 94 Nissan. Beat everyone else by over $100/six mos. But for my sister, Esurance was way high....ended up with Travellers for $110 for six mos (liability only). Seems I was able to get a lot more quotes over the internet (InsWeb, etc) last year than I have been able to get this year.

I work at a (fairly) Big name insurance company, albeit in their serperate "non-standard" product. DA's words are those to live by when shopping for insurance. You may not notice it when it comes to just paying your bill every month, but WHEN something comes up, the difference in service that you receive will be VERY noticable.

ESurance doesn't offer coverage in Nevada.

I've just got a quote from Kemper Direct. Saving $400 a year from my present carrier (Allstate).

Allstate sucks, they give you a good rate at first, then raise it for no reason (till you get tired of it, then bail as in my case).

Anyone have any experience with Kemper Direct??

Thanks,

BSR

I had gotten a quote from USAA, which is a non-profit insurance company, ya have to be in the armed forces or have family in them to even get in, and usually they're the cheapest, but progressive.com beat them by over 400 bucks every 6 months. I had gotten quotes from Allstate and State Farm online, but they were almost 1800 - 2500 a year, over 1200 more than progressive. How good is progressive at customer service anyways? Any experience? Thanks in advance.

** I know this isn't a "hot deal", but it might inform someone as to the quality of any hot deal, so please don't yell at me =( **

Anyone tried Costco insurance? I'm a memeber @ their store and they offer Home/Auto insurance through Amex I think. My dad's about to buy that new 04 Toyota Sienna minivan and they quoted him $323/6month (45yr old, clean records).

I had allstate for 10 years, because a 2 days late payment, they cancel my policy and want me to signup as a new policy holder which will cost me double in insurance premium, then I went to 21st century, then ekemper, finally I have www.wawanesa.com now. I have noticed different company has different rule, 21st century if you cancel your policy before due day, they will charge you $50 penalty, ekemper final premium price was differ than www.insurance.com where I got the quote from, I am using wawanesa, they tried to contact me and left a message, if I call them back and can't reach them, they will not count as I did call back and cancel my policy if any problem they couldn't solve. But anyway, 4 cars with 3 cars full coverage and 100/300/50 for $2150, I think they are the lowest price I can find so far.

Progressive has got to be one of the most self over rated companies around. They cannot in fact give you a REAL price for their competitors like they say they can. I have talked to them a couple times for the fun of it just to see if I was correct. They give you an estimate of what competitors charge. It is not an exact amount nor does it tke into affect any multiple vehicle discounts, Safe driving records, Accident free periods, home owners policies, rentors policies, etc the other company maybe giving you discounts for. As the person said above you get what you pay for...... which isn't much with Progressive.

I currently use State Farm and I am satisified with what I receive. I know for sure I could receive lower rates by at least $100 by 6 months. BUT, is your agent going to be there for you to personalize the experience for you, or will it be some call center rep you are reporting the accident to that doesnt know you or your history from the next caller.

My wife was just in an accident this tuesday. She rear ended someone, going about 5 mph. She immediately contacted the agent directly and he gave her a claim number and took all her information. He said if she had any questions that might pop up please give him a call on his cell phone or page him anytime day or night. This happened on her way from work so, she felt very comfortable in knowing she could speak to him at anytime. He pulled up her info on his laptop and informed her what we had on the policy for coverage and expressed his concern for her. I'll take that service for a $100 bucks more any day....
