The biggest disaster in decades and here we have people bringing up politics.....

The death toll just boggles the mind. Nature can be so cruel.

this is unbelievable. i don't know anyone affected by this disaster, but i'm so saddened by the number of lives lost.

the last article i read on cnn.com stated the death toll at 67,000 people. these people lived so far away, lead completely different lives, had different religions, etc....but after this, the world feels a lot smaller. human life is so fragile, and this is such a sad reminder. we feel so invincible with our modern technology, but this should remind us that we are all made of flesh and bones that can easily be broken.

As far as I know Kuwait has pledged US$1 million and Pakistan is sending tents and medical supplies. Turkey is sending Earthquake experts. Apart from that Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt have only offered condolences.

That is my little rant. If anyone has any updated information that corrects me, please reply to the topic, I would love to be proven wrong.

you have got to be kidding me. this is a worldwide disaster and you rant about religion?

Don't listen to that guy making assinine assumptions and bringing religion into it. Saudi Arabia last I heard has so far pledged $3 or 4 million in aid

Source ? You'd think Madagascar would get hit too. They are 3500 miles away from Indonesia... unbelievable... imagine waves crossing from Maine to California and past it.

One thing though... Maldives is directly halfway and in the path, how did they have so few casualties at 1500 miles away from the epicenter ?

There is a volcano in a western island of Africa that could send huge waves across the Atlantic to the eastern seaboard if it blew its top. Its also like 3500 miles. Once these waves get going it appears like theres not much stopping them until they reach land.

I can careless about what or how much each country donated to the disaster, but how much did YOU donate to provide aid to the disaster is more of an importance. The world is lot smaller now religion, race, politics, is not even worth mentioning anymore.

Does anyone else have a decent video that shows how large the waves were ?

It's the Cumbre Vieja on La Palma. The problem isn't that it's going to blow it's top, it's that the western half of the volcano is unstable and hanging on by a thread. An eruption or earthquake could cause it to let go and slide into the sea. That would cause a "mega-tsunami" which is to a regular tsunami like a bomb is to a firecracker. The areas of Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia that just got pounded were hit with waves in the 5-10 foot range that ran a couple of hundred yards inland. When Cumbre Vieja collapses it's going to produce waves over 200 feet tall that might travel miles inland. It'll truly be like a scene from a cheesy Irwin Allen disaster movie. And it's not a question of if it's going to happen, it's just a matter of when.

If you have Kazaa lite you can find a number of video clips by searching for "tsunami". I haven't seen them yet so I don't know if these are actually anything different from what they are airing 24/7 on CNN and other networks.
