I have these and the Senns blow the Sonys away.Once you do the HEV90 you can never go back to regular headphones.Thats a good price for these too.I paid 12,499 for mine so this is a hot deal for sure.

Text from the ad:

Highs are detailed and articulate, mids are smooth as silk and bass is so tight and realistic you'll be tapping your foot as if you were in the room with the performers.

For 11 grand, you probably COULD have the performers in your room instead of the headphones.

Quote "Well I dont know if you can pick up a chick if you showed her your $11,000+ headphones" ---No first you put them on her head, tell her to be careful with them cause they are Kind of expensive(telling her the price seems to help) place a glass of fine wine in her hand, and put on some Chopin or maybe Led Zepplin 4 depending... works like a charm

Well, no one really needs $10,000 home speaker systems either... btw everyone
knows that $11K headphones == $50K speakers right? It's a steal.

I have a pair of sennheisers and they are awesome but NOTHING and I mean NOTHING could possibly worth so much for so little. C'mon 11 grand?!?!?! I just dont see how anything could perform any better than lets say a nice pair of $200 headphones. The quality in sounds couldnt increase so much that its worth that kinda cash.

supposedly the use real gold wiring for the best sound quality. regular headphones use only copper. i myself would never spend $11grand on headfones, but i'd like to be able to listen to one and give it a try. ^_^x

Headroom not listed at Resseller Ratings! Has any one done business with them?
But at this great price it's probably worth a gamble!

Ok, I am a bit of an audiophile, but there is so much BS in this thread. Here is some smackdown . . .

1. Headroom is 100% reputable. They have done much for the audiophile community.

2. If you really want to know what these sound like, Headroom does tours where they drag along a ton of gear for people to audition. You can find info about the current one here. Yes, they do have those $14K Orpheus' on the truck

3. Sony vs. Senns (vs. Grado's). Sony makes some amazing headphones (MDR-V6, CD-3000's, etc.). Sony makes some extreemly crappy headphones (MDR-Vxxx, the "dj" headphones). Senn's are the same. Sony and Senn also make very different sounding headphones. If you really want to get into a debate on which is better, head over to headwize.com or head-fi.org. Your not going to get a good discussion about this here. Oh yeah, and pretty much all Grado headphones are amazing, but on the other hand, they only make 7 or so models.

Are any headphones worth $11,000?

They are, if that's what they're worth to the buyer.

Look, I'm not trying to get all philosophical about the meaning of value. I'm just suggesting that plenty of people will spend thousands of dollars for a diamond ring that doesn't "perform" any better than would a $75 fake.

I wouldn't suggest that these people are crazy. They've decided that there are intangible emotional benefits to owning the expensive ring, that are well worth the price.

Similarly, there are people who have decided that they'll derive some sort of emotional benefit from owning an $11,000 pair of 'phones, that couldn't be obtained from a $200 set of 'phones.

(Moreover, the $11,000 headphones probably do perform really, really, really well.)

I have friends who just dropped $14,000 on a 6 week vacation to Africa. They don't appear to regret spending the money. I have a relative who owns a 41 foot sailboat, which not only cost a fortune, but which requires serious money to be spent on it each and every year. My relative loves the boat, and would probably tell you that buying it was the best decision he ever made.

The point being, if spending a lot of money on something that most people would consider a foolish expense brings you joy, then _to you_ it's not a foolish expense.

Me? I like wristwatches. To me, spending $19,000 on a Lange 1 seems like a perfectly rational thing to do (assuming one can come up with the $19,000 without forcing the children to go hungry or something like that). Most other people think no wristwatch is worth $19,000, unless it comes with a new car. I also like fountain pens. You ever try explaining to a non-pen person why a Pelikan 1000 is worth $300? It's no easy task.

Different people derive pleasure from different things.

To each his own.

I listened to these at a Hi-Fi show a while back. They did sound wonderful. The look of the chrome amp with the tubes glowing inside was also impressive. These headphones made the longest lasting impression on me of anything I saw or heard at the show. Then again, it could be post traumatic stress syndrome from the price tag.

Seriously, I was impressed enough to look into electrostatic headphones after hearing the Sennheiser. I found that I could get Koss electrostatics for $500 or less. After a few weeks I decided that even $500 was too much for headphones. The Sennheiser model 580 or 600 would be more than enough if I really wanted or needed super-premium headphones. Fact of the matter is I still use my old, ( I mean vintage), Sennheiser HD 414's, one of the all time best selling open air 'phones.

For the money, I haven't been able to beat my Grado SR-60's. I was going to go with a higher model, but the vendor I bought from talked me down to the 60's unless I had a headphone amp. Don't get me wrong, I woulda gone with better SQ, but I also wanted to use 'em comfortably on my $50 discman should the need arise
